Good luck, I hope they do the right thing for you. Based on the responses, or lack of responses here, I'm wondering how widespread the problem might be. It was your posting that you had TWO with the problem that got my attention. Either there aren't that many people with the problem, or, they're not talking about it.tongue.gif

I do have extraordinarily bad luck in some fashions. Three healthy kids, but stuff craps out on me like nobody's business. I will take the healthy kids 8 days a week smile.gif

Will post back and let you guys know what gives!

I had a JVC DLA-HD750 replaced under warranty (for magenta strip left side vertical) with a new DLA-HD950.....no problems with the HD950. It has been replaced with a JVC DLA-X75R.

Hey RickS.

I am under a third party warranty right now and with having two 950's bail on me I am hoping I get a X75 as replacement. If it is non-repairable I get a current model replacement, but not really sure if I get eqivilent (like X-55 or something like that) or if I get the replacement from the same tier in the current lineup.

Noticed you are from Alberta when perusing the X-75R thread and was going to ask you your thoughts and pick your brain about what you calibrate with. Gimmie a PM if you are interested in answering some questions. smile.gif

Well, since the HD950 was a 8K retail projector, I would ask for the X75 since it has the same MSRP. The 90K contrast ratio is a step up from the 950. My 950 has been flawless and after calibration has a great picture....I was really leary about replacing it but want the 3D capabilities. I use Calman 5 software with a C-6 meter that I profile to a i1pro meter and a DPG2000 pattern generator.

I purchased the RS25 from AV Science in September of 2009. In March of 2012 (six months out of warranty), it started to show a light, 2-inch green tint across the top of the image with about 2000 hours on the original lamp. I sent it to JVC in Long Beach and they said optical block ($3300) and new lamp install ($300). I opted for the new lamp only so I could just use the machine until it became unwatchable.

A few days ago, after about 350 hours on the lamp (in normal), it started to flicker. I changed from THX to Dynamic, and then back to THX. It was significantly dimmer back in THX mode. I wrote to JVC asking if they would sell me a demo/refurb RS55 or 4810, and the tech referred me to Bill Birdsall. I left him a message on Tuesday, but no word yet. That's reasonable considering he is the national sales manager.

After reading-up on the issue, I switched the lamp to high for a few minutes and back to normal. So far it has not flickered through a re-watch of Inception and a couple of episodes of Homeland, but I had to open up the iris to 0 from my original setting of -15 (Da-Lite Matte White screen, 12ft throw, dark brown walls and carpet -- sometimes I even wear dark clothing to make sure I don't reflect any light back at the screen:)

Overall, I am extremely happy with the quality of the image over the years, and with AV Science. It would be awesome if JVC could work out a deal. With so many customers having problems with the optical block and the lamp, it seems like a design/manufacturing flaw.

Unfortunately, that is exactly what the warranty is supposed to cover... almost the exact wording. So, once the warranty is over, JVC is technically off the hook for it's design/manufacturing miss-steps. Hopefully, in the interest of customer satisfaction they will do more than the warranty requires. I have an RS20 that's still working perfectly, so here's hoping I won't be let down.

Bruce,

Here are my responses to your inquiry.

1. RS25 built in 2009 and bought and first used in January, 2010.
2. Approximately 1700 hours when the problem started.
3. This was a replacement bulb. The first one developed a flicker at 1000 hours.
4. The replacement bulb was a genuine OEM bulb.
5. Table mounted.
6. Average room temperature is 20 degrees Celsius(68 Fahrenheit) with low humidity.
7. Average number of operated hours for a single power cycle is 3.

Nothing more to add, really. Up until this problem started about a month ago my projector has behaved flawlessly. Still throws a great picture IF you don't look at the right-side.

Hope this helps.

the 'flicker' is caused from the lamp.....basically, the bulb creates a secondary 'arc point' and this happened to my first, original bulb with about 600 hours. I switched to high lamp mode and the flicker went away. I now have a new OEM lamp with generic housing with about 150 hours in low lamp mode with no problems. I just hope my RS20 doesn't develop the dreaded pink/green line thing.....

When you say that the HD950 was replaced with an X75R, I assume you mean you sold the replaced HD950 and bought the X75R?

In any event, if you can, would you mind supplying some information about the HD750 that went bad with the magenta stripe?

Thanks.

1. Build Date (if available)
2. Date first put into service?
3. Hour on projector when problem started?
4. Hours on original bulb when problem occurred?
5. If bulb was replaced, hours on replacement bulb when problem occurred (and brand, if known)?
6. Mount - Ceiling or Table?
7. Average room temperature where projector was operated?
7. Average power cycle (i.e., number of hours operated each time projector was turned on)?

It really does help. If enough people with the problem post here, ANYONE will be able to look through the posts and compare it with their problem and we'll begin to see a pattern develop. That's how the defect with Sony's defective SXRD light engine became known. After ONE class action lawsuit was filed, Sony FINALLY did the right thing and started replacing the defective TV's. They knew it was bad starting with the A2000 models, yet, continued to manufacture and sell newer models (A2020, A3000), first claiming there was no problem and then claiming it was corrected after the A2000.

Thanks for posting!

Although the RS20 and later models have the same "basic" light engine, I don't think anyone with RS20 have posted about any stripe problem with them. However, if it's caused by a chip wiring problem (which is what I suspect), it's just a crap shoot. I wonder how they do manufacture connecting all those ULTRA fine wires to the chips. I feel that if the projector has a lot of heat built up during operation, it could cause one or more of those wires to develop a poor connection. What I do know is that the D'ILA chips seem to be able to run practically forever with no noticable loss in PQ.

I know from some of the earlier models that use high pressure mercury bulbs (except xenon), some of the no name generic replacements draw more current and run hotter than the oem bulbs. I wanted to see if that might be playing a roll in this problem.
