Ok, so I am trying to decide between an NEC 6100 (6PG+) with clean tubes (1500 hours) and a Runco 980Ultra (rebadged 9PGXtra) that has a green tube about 6, red about 8 and blue thats 9 (5500 hours). Both have a point board and HD-144 lenses.
I am planning to run 720p (maybe 1080i later) from a HTPC in a light-controlled room with velvet on the walls.
The runco is brighter at 1000 lumens, but if I decide to keep it I'll definitely change the green tube and thats something I have never done before.
My NEC 6100 has the optional point board and the tubes are very clean, but its 850 lumens/75Mhx bandwidth as opposed to 1000 lumens/100Mhz on the runco. I have had problems with the systems board with the NEC and its on its way back from Curt- so I need to decide within the next week.
So is it worth the hassle of changing the tube to keep the runco, or go with the NEC. What would you have done ?
Also, if you have a green tube for the 9PGXtra, let me know.
