I initially had a red vertical stripe from top to bottom of the image on the right hand side of my screen upon setting up my RS15 (92" screen innovations). I called JVC and when they found out the serial number was a RS model, they put me through to a engineer right away (very impressive). After a little Q&A, they paid for my freight to send it to their HO in Toronto & then back to me again within 7 days. Apparently in the service menu there is a fine tuning of pixel adjustment that must be done by a JVC technician; it looks stunning now. I have asked my dealer & the engineer at JVC about getting it calibrated and both have replied that it is not necessary. Now, I have owned Sim2 and Epson in the past and never did get them calibrated (other than by me with set up discs) which was outside of the norm for me; my CRT stuff always had been done professionally. I am probably not helping you to decide with this rant, but as with most decisions with this sickness we call a hobby, it's how much $$$$ to get a little more
Having realized the benefits of a full-on calibration first hand in the past, it can be an enormous improvement .... but for me, the image on mine is the best yet in my dedicated HT room based on the aforementioned PJ's. But as I read in a post earlier by Jason, each one he has done is slightly different. Perhaps mine looks so stunning because the JVC techs did a little more than adjust pixels (they wouldn't say)?
Sorry for the babble ..... good luck with your decision.
