For anyone wondering hubs don't work with this firmware like they do with .07
post #3 of 107
I remember when WDTV released an update many, many ppl got excited and the threads lit up like an xmas tree, sadly today nobody really cares as they (may) have moved onto others brands due to their (WDTV's) lack of support.

Or they are happily using their WDTVs like I am. Mine was in the closet for the first six months because it was pretty much a useless device. After the FWs started rolling it does exactly what I bought it for.

none of what you report is claimed to be fixed with the .11 FW...

I had Xvid audio sync issue yesterday using the .10 FW...
1080 24p video problem was resolved in previous update. And now it is available again.
erm...it was never solved AFAIK...I need to take my WDTV to a 24Hz-capable TV to check...not that it's hard

Thanks for the info. So ridiculous we need to stick to 1.02.07 still.
Almost 4 month sine last release and not able to get hub support back in. (oh yeah I know it always has been "inofficial" feature - which doesn't make things better though)

B-RAD's current WDLXTV firmware is based on 1.02.10 and does include hub support, right?
Yes! Video playlist support! About time!

Thank you, WD! I still love my WDTV!

Update:

The new Video Playlist icon is there, but how do you add to it?
Any instructions how to make video playlist? What file extencion it must be?

More like not all people sit on avs to express their opinion in less than two hours from the topic start.

If it was "inofficial" (unofficial btw) function, then why do you complain? Why do you suggest that "we" need to stick to 1.02.07?

Yes, I am also unhappy, that they didn't introduce a function to grill my sandwiches. Well they should, if not, their support definitely sucks

Bye WD

What are your demands? Add DVD menu support, that you didn't pay for? Maybe support for network cards? Or DTS-to-stereo downmix? Why did you even get that device, if it didn't have desired functions, and you could only hope for them in future (which gives you no right to complain - this is rather sad) ?

I, for one, am happy that the firmware got updated. I never did have problems with A/V sync on my setup (which is nearly 1.5TB of movies in 720p/1080p, with AC3 tracks), but some users had this problem anyway. Then comes the proper track sorting, finally, and I am content with it. Since I obviously bought a device suiting my needs (and my budget), and it has been doing it for past months, I am happy with every new update, even if doesn't bring huge functions.
I'm at work and can't test the new firmware until over the weekend.

But I look forward to reading other WD owner experiences with the 1.02.11 firmware.

"Yes, I am also unhappy, that they didn't introduce a function to grill my sandwiches. Well they should, if not, their support definitely sucks"

Hold your horses man, (btw, your irony is from the kindergarten?) almost all quotes above all right, or on your WD can you see flawless 1080 mkv's ar at least all 720 without desync or other problem? Is three possibilities there:1 Or you just have one or two mkv's or 2. You are blind or have ears problem, or 3. aliens upgrade your device somehow

4 month for what?
WD support sucks. I was a great fan but now the place for WD is in garage near for the old scraps which I keep there.

Xtreamer who does not have the resources of WD, have a good contact with their customer, and they struggle to make something to improve the quality and the function of the device.
This FW is just dust in the eyes, just to see there (a.k.a. WD) is still a light on

R.I.P. WD
Since I said that I had no problems for past months, then I mean it.

720p? No problems -at all-. A/V desync should be fixed with this firmware for people encountering it, so WD Team definitely do nothing, don't they?

1080p? any 1080p with ref frames / resolution in limit play just fine. Blame the groups, that make their releases far off from h264 specs.

Also, Xtreamer is new on market. Comparing the product, that was created way after WD TV Media Player makes no sense at all... Especially since it's obvious, that the PR of new company should be really high, to keep new users focused (recall what was going on right after WD release - new firmwares every few days. I am okay with the fact, that they are preparing the two new media players, and the delay in updates may exist).

In regards to quotes:

1)Check past firmware releases thread. The fact that almost nobody posted in 2 hours means nothing.

2)Yes, the hub support was removed. Was it official? No. Did they ever claim it would be supported? No.

4)4 months is a long time. But honestly, what does it change? Is the most serious bug fixed? It should be. Do you still complain? yes.

5)If the demands are impossible, then what do you expect? I really would like that my WD would be an oven additionally, but you don't see me complaining.

So how come the quotes are "all right"?

//edit:

You may keep your personal insults for yourself. My eyes, and ears are OK. If you actually could read, you would see, that I stated, that I do not own only 1-2mkvs, but more. And no, I am not alone. They are a lot more users happy with the WD. Want to insult them as well?
Nice to see a new update. However, like the 1.02.10 update, this one apparently doesn't contain anything of interest to me, so I'll pass on this one like I did the 1.02.10. The resolved issues were not issues for me (minor UI tweaks, I don't use it for songs/alblum playback and I haven't experienced and sync issues with the files I've played) and the new features aren't of much interest to me.

While it would be nice to see some of the issues/features mentioned on the uservoice froum implemented (particularily since there are several they claim to be working on) however, as I'm overall happy with my WDTV as it stands (it does everything it claims to and for which I bought it - that it doesn't do things that it never claimed to do is no skin off my nose) I'm not overly bothered if they don't.

@stefanol

Well, I was check for point nr 3, but I didn't found it, so I will response after your order

"1)Check past firmware releases thread. The fact that almost nobody posted in 2 hours means nothing."

right, but have a little patient, for sure in a few hours we will have a strong feedback

"2)Yes, the hub support was removed. Was it official? No. Did they ever claim it would be supported? No."
right 100%

4)4 months is a long time. But honestly, what does it change? Is the most serious bug fixed? It should be. Do you still complain? yes.
wrong. Sure I complain. This is write on the box
"Full HD video playback and navigation - up to 1080p - Experience the spectacular picture quality of HD video and crystal clear sound clarity of digital audio. Use the included remote control to navigate through your entertainment choices using our crisp, animated HD menus."
Full Hd, right? not half, not a quarter, FULL, So is another thing with you, maybe you don't use subtitles, external or internal, so in this case you have right, but otherwise I don't see how you WD play mvk ok.

"5)If the demands are impossible, then what do you expect? I really would like that my WD would be an oven additionally, but you don't see me complaining"
Wrong. demands are possible, on other devices work's ok, so is not even far, impossible
For support of DVD menu, hub, Network, I agree, not mention on the items official supported, then, no help.
But how come that other devices on the same price offer much more functions and support then WD?

As GreenDream said "minor UI tweaks" I can complete "microscopical UI tweak"
3 was an answer to the question regarding unofficial firmwares, so it didn't really bother the WD updates.

On 1) and 2) I have nothing more to say. On 4): yes, I do use both external srt subs, as well internal ones (in various formats). And as I said, I am not the only one -not- experiencing the problems, as long as the movies are under certain ref frames restriction (which isn't high, but it's okay, I guess).

5) Maybe because they came out much later than WD? Usually a product introduced later have better range of functions, and better price - it doesn't mean, that the older products should drop it's low enough price, and automatically add all the functions others have.

The iPhone never said that it could record voice.. never said that it could be used as a bousole, never said that it could install apps, ..support MMS.... support microsoft Exchange... still they wen't beyond what they originally proposed..
I love my WDTV but I wish it can do stuff that WDTV Mini can do like DVD Menu and Real Time Preview.

Anyway, hope WDTV people always support the WDTV. Thanks for this update.

PS. WDTV Mini is selling like cake and candy again. I got one for my gf last week and this week it all gone. So congradulation on that.
4 Months... only for this!

Still no 1080p 24Hz fix... still no major improvements in UI like "one buttom comand" to change the refresh rate since WD dont care about developing Autodetect framerate... so everytime i need to change from 24Hz to 50Hz, I need do scroll trough the menus and then scroll back again to the movie...

Well... most of people here seem to enjoy crappy support... and WD can easily continue to deliver lazy firmwares... thats good for everyone, I think!

Enjoy this new beta... the official is comming soon after the release of WD TV 2 and then, bye bye new firmwares for WD TV 1!

Marketing is a wonderfull thing!

I will be selling my wdtv and using purchasing another media player, what would you recommend?
I know wdtv has problem with a lot of 1080p files so im looking for a player which plays them flawless(supports high reframes),

Excellent points Afras, no 1080p 24Hz fix,,,,, that should've been their first item to work on, yet we get fluff instead.
