Question about HDMI Loss of Sync from PC to HDTV

Hey guys,

I have a few quick questions. So I build a HTPC last year, it's a decent computer, fairly small, quiet and low on heat emissions. Anyway it's running a dual core AMD processor, an HD3450 ATI Radeon GFX card, and its outputting video to my Vizio 24 inch VX240M. After some struggle I was finally able to get audio working through the HDMI connection on the gfx card. I had to install catalyst 8.2 and the Realtek ATI HDMI Audio Driver.

Regardless everything is great, however when I turn off the TV and then turn it back on it does not re-activate the display to the PC. Instead it says "Retrieving Data..." for a few seconds and then will go to a blue screen that says "No Signal." Any ideas on this? It seems if I unplug the HDMI cable from the back of the computer or TV and reseat it, the image comes back. But no other luck...

Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like handshake issue. The PC stops seeing the EDID data from the monitor and then stops sending the image out to it. This is actually quite common with PCs.

Go search in the HTPC forum for DVI Doctor or DVI Detective you should get more than a few hits explaining it.

Does it matter that I am only using HDMI ? I am not doing any type of conversion from HDMI to DVI or anything of that sort.... It's pure HDMI...

Thanks,

Ok, go ahead and do a search for "HDMI detective" you'll find fewer hits, but once you read the explination, you'll find it's the same problem.
