i bit the bullet and purchased night sessions by chris botti on sacd for 69 clams. the mix is very good and so is the sound quality.but in the very beginning on a couple of songs it sounds like someone is putting a needle on an album i have never heard this before and was just wondering if anyone has ever heard this before.

i just went on amazon and now the price is 109, i sware when someone buys an out of print cd, at a ridiculous price, they jack the price up even more. when i purchased this disc there was a few of them avaliable around 70 bucks

Isn't it a 5 channels recording? Then it can't be LP transfer.

Could be tape hiss from the master tapes. Or, is it a live recording?

Sometimes this is done intentionally but I have trouble imagining Botti trying to sound too hip-hoppish. Even if it is not live as in live performance, it may have been recorded live in a studio. In which case you may be hearing something related to that.

Are you sure it's not the drummer using brushes?

Perhaps it was sourced from a quad LP?

Just kidding...I have no idea on this one.

No, it is not sourced from an LP.

The sound of the needle dropping on the record is intentional for atmospheric effect. It is only on track 2 - "Miami Overnight", and adds to the late night chill vibe of the song.
