Wiring my Pio 151FD - Direct or Via Pio VSX-1019AH Receiver

Thread Starter
I am looking for some guidance /comments on whether I should connect my audio/video components (i.e. BR Samsung BP1600, DVD Changer Sony CDP300?, Satellite VIP622) directly to my Kuro - or should I route them via the receiver (Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K).

I am in the process of wallmounting the TV and am planning to run 3 X HDMI, 1x Component, 1 x Optical, 1x Cat5e and a 3.5mm for good measure behind the wall.

Howevern now I am debating whether I should just use 1x HDMI connection from the receiver to the TV for the audio/video signals and connect all other components to the receiver. All my wires are going to end in the built-in TV cabinent.

I guess it comes down to which has the the better video-signal processing TV or Receiver.

As a side note - while I currently have the TV speaker attached (as the TV is sitting on its stand on the ground) - I am planning to take these off as I wallmount the unit.

Any thoughts on what the best approach would be ?

Thanks

I'm not completely familiar with that model, but can you set the pioneer receiver to video pass-through? If that is the case I would do that and run a single HDMI to the display. This will be the most convenient and will still allow you to take advantage of HDMI audio and the new high res formats.

I was in the same boat just recently, but in my case I had a 35' run from my components to my wall-mounted display. Even with that long of a run, the cost of cabling (assuming you go the Monoprice or BlueJeans route) justified running extra cables IMO. Even if you decide to use the receiver as your HDMI "hub", I'd still run an extra HDMI (or 2) to the display just to be safe. That way you have a backup cable if there's ever a problem, while still giving yourself the flexibility to bypass the receiver if you so choose.

Keep in mind if you bypass the 1019 you'll need to run a separate audio cable from the source component to the 1019. As jzoz alluded to the by-pass method could limit you with audio formats. Also don't forget to test your cables before running them in the wall.
