Opinions/Cures for those glossy bezels

I really really dislike the current fashion of framing plasmas with a glossy bezel. I guess we can thank Pioneer and their "kuro" finish that looks fine when the set is off but drives me to distraction when I want to actually watch the display. Panasonic used to make a flat-finish bezel on the plasmas they sold at Sams and Costco and also some industrial monitors, but as far as I can tell they stopped doing that. The V10 does have the all-glass front on the 50" and 54" models that help a little bit since the glass reduces reflections - but alas the 50" model I want is not available locally.

So am I alone or are others bothered by glossy and reflective bezels? And for those who really dislike them, what remedies have you tried or thought about trying? Paint? Sandpaper? Custom frame?

buy black electrical tape and cover it up.

LOL! One thing I know for sure is that I would never put sandpaper to my frame unless someone who knew what they were doing did it, and I was 110% sure that it was going to turn out good.

Actually Samsung was the one that started the glossy bezel thing back in 2004 or 2005.

Lots of us are bothered by the reflective bezels and there has been a number of threads about it over the past four years with no real resolution other than to try to ignore it

Black felt and some velcro perhaps?

I like it on the Panny I have. I guess I do not really get a lot or reflections in it like some of you apparently do. Must be something to do with my HT room and arrangement of things.

i personally love the glossy bezel on my samsung, but i dont have a problem with any bad reflections either.

What about putting a film over/around the bezel like the kind that the tv shipped with only in a matte finish?

I have seen this stuff used before, its a clear colored adhesive window-film covering that would cut down on reflections.

Thanks, that might be worth considering. But I am thrown a bit by your phrasing "clear colored" which sounds contradictory. I assume you mean to say it is clear, not colored, correct?

right sorry, poor wording. I was referring to a clear (no color added) film. I know you can order them clear and then choose whether you want them perfectly transparent - glass like, or more cloudy as well. I imagine that either type of the clear will help to cut down on ambient reflections. basically like shrink wrapping the bezel. I dont know too terribly much about the stuff, more-so just offering a possible idea. Happy hunting!

I bet if you took your time #0000 steel wool would do the trick.

I actually considered that but got used to not focusing on the reflections. But if anyone does use the #0000 steel wool trick, i would first apply a couple of layers of that blue painters masking tape on the screen right up against the edge of the plastic bezel and go several inches away to make sure you don't accidentally scratch the screen
