Tivo HD & SDV Tuner

Anyone have any information or experience using this combination yet? I have time warner cable in Hudson Valley NY, and they are about to roll out these Switched Digital Video adapters for people who use 3rd party cable boxes with cable cards. I currently have the Tivo HD, and Tivo has a wonderful section on there site how to hook up the box and how the tivo will function with it.

Sadly, the SDV adapter will only allow the tivo to be able to call for the channels, and add no new functionality to the tivo.

If anyone has a tivo hd, or series 3 hd, and is using a SDV adapter, can you answer a few questions?

Can you now access packages such as Center Ice, or MLB extra Innings?

Is the Tivo now buggy? Any issues with the channel switching away, ruining a recording? etc.

Was the SDV adapter generally as plug and play as tivo's instructions make it seem? Any problems?

I am considering just selling the TIVO HD and grabbing a dreaded SA 8300HDC.

I think that box is a sin as far as DVR software goes...especially since I have been using a tivo since they first came around, and am quite spoiled by it.

The only thing I don't like about the TIVO is I can never get my NHL Center Ice package, which has always been a big deal to me. I was always willing to give that up, to keep the better TIVO HD Os, but I am worried about the near future, and if this SDV adapter is going to really make the TIVO HD less enjoyable.

anyone with experience?

I've read reports of some issues in Cablevision areas, but the SDV adapter appears to work well with most TWC systems.

SDV channels do take about 0.5-1.0 second longer to tune.

Be aware that Time Warner can effectively disable "TiVo Suggestions" on SDV channels. That may or may not bother you. Your season passes and wishlists are not affected.

If your SDV adapter loses power, your channels will go out for anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. The SDV adapter is more sensitive to power fluctuations than the TiVo. If your house has power issues, you may want to put the SDV adapter on a UPS.

That's correct. You won't get On Demand.
