DLP bulb life question

I am looking at a used SIM2 Domino 30H. The seller says the machine will tell you how many hours the bulb has left but not how many the machine has. That doesn't sound right to me. Is that correct. I can't imaging there isn't a menu option that would tell total hours.

I am also curious if the DLP bulbs get significantly less bright over time like LCD bulbs do? This person says there are 3000 hours left on the bulb. The bulbs are good for 6000 hours but I don't know if they take high output into those numbers or not.

Anyone with experience with the SIM2 bulbs, the rate at which they fail, how fast they loose lumens and at what percent do they loose them would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

From recollection the counter on the Sim2 counts up only. And there is no way to know how many hours one will get on any projector (doesn't matter what technology). As far as the total hours, I don't remember for sure.

What I've seen in the just three projectors I've owned is that usually there's a counter in the user menu telling you the current elapsed time on the bulb, and typically a timer reset, though sometimes this is kept in the service menu only. The real total hours of machine use are typically in the service menu. And Jason's correct, there's no way for a projector to tell you how many hours of life are left on a bulb with a countdown timer. It's not an ink jet printer ;-)

Though I don`t remember specific brands, there have been projectors which are programmed to shut off and not work again until bulb replacement after a certain number of hours, maybe 2000. Usually a replace bulb within 100 hours warning would pop up.

My Sharp projector has 2100 hours on it. Bulb is dim now with medium brightness setting. Waiting for a good deal on RS20 or Planar 8150 to upgrade.
