Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Page 2

Well, to be fair, it'd be pretty tough to make a 3D Mario multiplayer in the same way as NSMBW, at least without an ugly split-screen. And it seems like the pseudo-multiplayer in Galaxy 1 was more geared toward parent/kid teams.

I'm with ya on not quite feeling the excitement over this sequel though. I LOVED the first Galaxy, but this is a little too soon, and there's definitely a part of me that's disappointed we're getting a direct, engine-reusing Mario sequel.
reportedly, SMG2 has some levels that take on more of the 2D NSMBW - vibe.

So, take that w/ either renewed excitement or continued "meh..."

I'll be grabbing this one - in part because I really dug the 1st & am willing to buy more of it, as well as the fact that my 7 yr old loved being my "player 2" on the original & has seen the promos for this one & is EXICTED. I get a SMG2 "when can we get it?" question from her almost weekly.
Have there been any more details on how the co-op mode has been expanded? My incompetent friend always wants me to help him play through games so I may end up on controller #2 more than I'd like.
I've been trying not to read anything about the game since I know I'll be getting it myself, but I'm disappointed that certain sites have (repeatedly) put a new power-up's name in the headlines of articles, making it show in my RSS reader.

In case anyone's wondering, there's a:

power-up in this one.

Said hidden powerup & it's use is found here in this IGN hands-on, for those not spoiler averse.

Will say that based on this article, it does look more & more that this is not just SMG - Level Expansion Pack. Even the "player 2" sounds more beefed up than last time.

Release day buy.

And updated hands-on of the final build from IGN. Sounds like a winner.

Just realized that my May 23rd will be a busy one. Plan on grabbing SMG2 - gotta love Sunday release days - and give it a solid workout.....then shut it all down for the LOST finale.

I still have no interest really.

My interest is mostly in wqhy this stupid site RUINS my internet connection. I can't even come here often or I automatically know my internet connection will be killed for a few minutes. No clue what could cause that. It's not just this SITE which stops working. It makes it where my internet connection totally stops working for any site.

It;'s been doing it for a year or two and even after I switched ISPs also! It does it on this site and 2 or 3 others.

For those buying: Amazon is giving a $20 credit toward a future game purchase with this title.

Also, Gamestop is doing a "Trade 2 for $40 off" with this game. I'm getting rid of my spare copy of Rock Band 2 and the terrible Modern Warfare 2 for some $10 Mario Galaxy 2.
Original was the best game on the Wii - looking forward to the sequel!

You're sure it isn't a problem with the keyboard-to-chair interface?

Reports are stating that SMG2 not only has it's own version of "Super Guide" a la NSMBW, but will also come packed w/ a DVD tutorial. Sounds like they are really reaching for those who may love NSMBW but are not sure about a 3D Mario adventure.

Correction - the US version will NOT have the tutorial DVD. Only the European & Japanese releases will contain the DVD.

Apprently, us Yanks have a firm grasp on 3D Mario titles....

Anyone else heading out Sunday to get this? I have a 7 yr old who now knows SMG2 comes out this Sunday - and won't let me forget it!!

Did see that GameStops will open earlier than usual (9:00AM in this case) on Sunday for the expected wave of Mario geeks.
No. I still haven't got through a level on the first galaxy game.

IGN review above. Gave it a 10/10!

Another random review - and another 10/10. This reviewer states SMG2 may be the best game of 2010 - not just the best Wii game, but overall!

And as of this mroning, Metacritic has it @ a 98 after 12 published reviews.

Yeah, I'm going out Sunday morning for this one....

The glowing reviews are starting to sway me...hurr, I'll display some rare patience and just get it off Walmart.com (have a three-year-old $10 GC, and the preorder comes with a $20 GC). Still doing my best to keep expectations low, though--reviewers can get a little overexcited about big releases sometimes, and no matter how awesome this is, it's still a direct sequel, and therefore not as fresh.

The one repeating comment frm the 15-odd reviews I have read (slow work day!!) is that despite being a true sequel, it stays fresh via the new power ups, the "new" chartacters (you can play as Luigi pretty much from the get go & it seems Yoshi has never been more cool to use) & the downright awesome level design. Sounds like this one yet again proves that when it comes to platform-hopping games, Ninty basically wrote the rules, created the mold & keeps on improving on both.

Oh man, I got ripped off. When I pre-ordered my copy thru Amazon all I got was a $5 credit for a music download. Wonder if I can still get the $20 credit?
Definitely worth calling them about, Waboman. If nothing else, you could cancel your current preorder and just preorder it again, since the offer's still going on.
Hmm, after further investigating, Amazon says, "The promotion code will be applied directly to your Amazon.com account up to two (2) business days after your product ships." So it seems you don't get the $20 code until after it ships. Anyway to know beforehand if I'm actually gonna get it?
Your best bet is to contact Amazon. Their customer service is pretty helpful.
Just got off the phone with Amazon cust. service. They really are first rate. She said I'm golden and the promo credit will be applied. Sweetness.
Just came home with my copy! Now to pop it in while waiting for Lost night to start.

That's awesome, DLJ. I look forward to your impressions of it. I chose free shipping from Amazon and should have mine a bit later.

P.S. We're having a Lost get together tonight. A few adult beverages will be consumed as we cheer on the last Lost.

Holy schnikies! The music of this game is beautiful! The composer has released the entire soundtrack on youtube. Give it a listen. Truly epic!
played it... got 5 stars (one of them being one of the "challenge" levels when you feed the star 300 star pieces). here is my review after a couple of hours
- it is a sequel to MG1 if you didn't like that you won't like this
- it is not 1.5, it is truly 2, yoshi, different power ups, GREAT level design with little things that are completely different from 1
- music is great (big surprise)
- visually same as MG1, no complaints
- Game is very addictive and really grabs you..
- so far difficutly is not too hard or too easy (although after playing that challenge level, i can see how it could get real hard with those)
- One problem i have is that after playing it, it will be very difficult to pull away to do the things i need to do

so in a nutshell, go buy it..
I see IGN gave this a 10. I don't need to play to know it was overrated because I could only play the original mario galaxy for 30 minutes and then never played it again due to it not seeming fun and it was rated not too far from a 10 also. They're rating weirdly apparently. And now since it gets such good ratings Nintendo will probably not even release zelda this year since they'll figure this game will keep selling based on the scores and that they can wait and use zelda next year.
New Mario verdict in: tricky, but could be the best yet. It's getting great reviews. I can't wait until my copy arrives from Amazon. Bawhahaha!

Hey Bashers - If your only intention is to come in here and constantly crap on an excellent game that you have no intention of playing, then just stay the hell out of the thread.

I have an intention of finding out if it's a game I want. Not everyone has to like a particular game and they have a right to their wn opinion. Usually when I post a negative initial opinion I mostly do it in case anyone can eever explain WHY a game is good becasue i always figure i've got to be missing something. But personally I've disliked all 3D mario games and think they should stick with 2D for mario and 3D for zelda.
Regardless of Basher (by the way, this IS a good game, at least to the majority of humans out there), I can say SMG2 is so far living up to the reviewer hype.

Picked it up Sunday AM. Spent a serious chunk of the day with it.

Everything that was cool about the 1st game is here in droves. Have yet to see any real repeat among the levels so far (have World 3 unlocked & partially explored right now). Thought I'd miss the old style of hub, but the top-down Mario map is actually easier to navgate in terms of reviewing/recalling any starts/coins/etc you may be missing.

If it's at all possible, this one seems a bit more colorful & "brighter" in a good way. Great game to just look at. And like it's predecessor, the controls are very intuitive - just the right amount of "waggle". Very polished (like that was going to be an issue...).

Co-op remains & is a tad more fleshed out. My daughter can now fetch me coins when the health meter is low instead of just Star Bits & can do a bit more when it comes to helping out w/ enemies.

Came across a flying/gliding level where you hold the Wiimote paper-airplane style (like the plane in Sports Resort). While this one does not have M+ support, the flying control actually works pretty well - and AFAIK, it may be only in one level.

Died repeatedly on one level & eventually had the "jedi ghost" Rosalina pop up to offer a "plays by itself" pass. Have yet to take her up on it, but it sounds like you get a bronze star if you let Rosalina help you complete a level. There are several spots where the Hint TVs pop up & give you a brief movie of the best route to take/moves to use - but these still leave the completeion of a level up to you.

Best use of Yoshi in a Mario platformer, IMO.

While there is much that is similar & familiar w/ SMG2, it still manages to be a fresh new take on the Mario 3D platformer. Better than the already great 1st game. If you have a Wii, you really should own this game.

Zelda's got a lot to live up to......
