... You typo'd Viewsonic in the title. You should probably fix that so people can search for it.

CALIBRATION USING YCPR 4:2:2 AS A COLORSPACE SOURCE (BLUYRAY OR PS3...) AT YOUR DISPLAY OR VIDEO SETTING:

1st you need to update your pj if not 2.51 you can check up by pressing manu botton then to the left arrow at the down youll see a number 2.1 or ... this is your pj version if its not 2.51 then you sould download the fimware file 2.51 then load it through update program under utilities section its so easy to do just follow the pdf instructions that comes with update program zip file.
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/pr...rs/pro8100.htm

for calib:
wen you press the manu botton at your pj remote you have picture , config , hqv , memory, pcs settings.

with your remote you have botton says "picture mode" click at it till you have "cinema".

then you have anothert botton says color temp click at it till you have "user"

then press manu botton and choose the following:

select picture manu:

enter the following;

Contrast=39
Brightness=64
Saturation=54
Hue=50
sharpness=26

then

select config manu:
enter the following:

Black Level=low with iris 3 or set black level to normal for more detail but less black

Color Space=Auto
Lamp Mode=Normal or eco as prefered for new lamp or high gain screen
Auto Iris=on
Daylight Sensor=Off

then

select HQV manu:
enter the following:

Detail Enhance=5( wen there is A HIGH noise decrease till noise BECOME LOW)
Film Mode=Auto
LTI=auto
CTI=auto

select memory manu:
enter the following:
User 1 Setup for best color mode:

Gain R = 521, G = 342, B = 360
Offset R = 506, G = 512, B = 516 .save to user1

select user 2 and enter the following:

User 2 Setup for bright mode

Gain R = 512, G = 466, B = 470
Offset R = 512, G = 512, B = 512 save to user 2

the best mode is cinema with user 1
the brightest mode is cinema with user 2

then for setting ur iris to 3: at the remot arrows do the following:

up,down,left,right,down,up,down.up, manu botton

some advices for using ur pj:

every 6 hours of running this pj rest for 25 min( cycle 2 hour rest 20 min) , clean existing filter every 50-100 houre to ensure dust protection , unplug your pj before going to bed to eliminate any vertical noise issues could happen because this pj is abit sensitive to video signal during standby mode, operation should be between 60-95f temp, wen you want to operate : 1st turn on the pj then after the lamp reaches full power turn on other playing sources, do not shack or vibrate the pj while its turn on, never ever unplug wen its on because it needed 3 min internal fan cooling after turn off thats it

Thanks Fabricator for bringing this up and you Bouba78 you have made my decision to get one of this Beast a lot easier. I will try this and see if it comes out good so I can avoid charges from a professional calibrator.
Talking about Professional Calibrator, is it worth looking into?

If you just want to exchange settings, please take this thread to the area for its display type, where it can be a companion to the main user thread. This area is more for those who want to develop their own settings using test patterns and other gear and are looking for some info on how to do it.

i calibrate using full rgb settings with this spyder3 elite:

and the results where different at contrast and brightness only:
lamp set to normal
setting iris to 3 with black level to low
for new lamp contrast 42
brightness 57
for 500hour lamp contrast 64
brighness 54
User 1 Setup for best color mode:

Gain R = 521, G = 342, B = 360
Offset R = 506, G = 512, B = 516 .save to user1

select user 2 and enter the following:

User 2 Setup for bright mode

Gain R = 512, G = 466, B = 470
Offset R = 512, G = 512, B = 512 save to user 2

the best mode is cinema with user 1
the brightest mode is cinema with user 2

the new software for calibrator suggest to calibrate grayscale every 150 hour use because the lamp gray scale change with time so i suggest u all to buy a dve hd basic bluyray and run thr grayscale every 100 hour.

Questions on above:

My screen is 1.4...considered high gain?

So after 6 hrs of use, you recommend to turn it off for 25 mins or? and why?

in my setup, I use a universal remote that turns everything on at once. Are you saying that I should turn on the projector first, wait, then turn on everything else? I might be able to put pauses into my remote, not sure. And why do this?

Excellent list of actions, thanks!

thx
post #12 of 18
smithsonga welcome my friend yes ur screen considered high gain one, u need to alter the contrast , brightness accourding to ur lamp settings eco or normal , my test was at 1.0 gain screen so after u enter all other settings you can press pause at scene contain dark backround with white and start with contrast increase it to the point that white take over detail then reduce it slightly till u give it to its detail limite with extra light push after that do the same with brightness, or buy a dve hd bluyray it contain accurate gray scale to follow, or set ur lamp to eco mode and enter the suggested contast at 62, brightness at 54.

i read at panasonic lcd pjs that long term use without rest can damage lcd panels and need to be replaced, also at the viewsonic pro8100 running this pj for continous 10 could cause internal damage, at epson they suggest to rest for 20min at long run, so as a conclousion rest ur pj every 6 hours for 25min to ensure long term quality.

projector lamp need about 60sec to reach its full power also this pj test the keystone at first wen operating, so to not give a high contrast or brightness signal during warm up let the lamp reach full power then start what ever you want, i think its better for the lamp.

best luck

I am trying to update the firmware on my Pro8100, but get a very strange device name "BOOT-OSI" when I connect the USB cable to my computers, both an XP and a Vista machine. I can't get a driver for the project to install... I haven't seen this posted anywhere. Can anybody recommend some help?

per the viewsonic instructions, you cancel Windows trying to install anything. Then run the Driver Install file included with the firmware.

then run the firmware update software.

BWest these are the pdf instruction about how to update:
1. Save and Extract all the attached ZIP files into a folder you can easily find later.
1. Pro8100 Driver Setup.zip, Pro8100 Updater.zip, and .brec firmware file
2 To get into Service mode:
a) Projector should be off, but plugged in (Green LED on top of PJ has slow flash)
b) Press and hold the Menu button on the projector, then press Power button until the
top Green LED starts to flash quickly (Projector will still be off, but in service mode).
This should only take about a second.
3. Connect a USB cable to the Pro8100, then to the PC or Laptop
a) Your PC or Laptop should recognize new hardware. Click Cancel when it tries to
automatically look and install drivers
b) Run Pro8100 Driver Setup.exe file (A warning dialog may pop up to tell you the
driver is not safe, ignore that and continue to install)
4. Launch (double click) the Pro8100 Updater.exe file found in the folder created earlier
a) Click on the Browse button and find the “xxxxx.brec” FIRMWARE file. Highlight the
file and click Open.
b) Press Update button to upload the F/W into Pro8100 and wait until the process
shows 100% and the update was successful
c) Press Exit button to exit the updater when the “browse” button becomes visable
again.
NOTE. During your first install of the software drivers, some computers may
require you to repeat this procedure (you’ll know this if upon clicking Update,
“Target is not found”). If this is the case, unplug/then replug the projector, start
again on Step 2, then proceed to step 4 (if done correctly, you should not have
to complete step 3 again as the drivers should be installed and your computer
will now recognize them automatically).
5. To power the Pro8100 back on after the update, you can wait for LED to stop flashing
quickly and return to stand by mode (about a minute) or unplug to reset the unit back
immediately (much faster just unplugging and re-plugging and will not hurt the
projector as long as update is complete and program is exited).
6. The initial launch of the Pro8100 after the F/W update may take longer than normal—
this will go back to normal after subsequent boots. You can check to see if the F/W
update was successful by pressing the menu button the remote and clicking “left”. The
F/W version will show on the status screen (i.e. 2.01)
NOTE. On subsequent F/W updates, you will not have to run the Driver
Setup.exe file again (Step 3b) as your PC or Laptop should recognize the drivers
automatically.

steps to clean enternal dust problems:

as for my dust problem its was solved thanx GOD , i opened the pj by my self with this steps and i didnt notice any sealed thing that can cause avoiding warranty. also i dont advice any one to try this unless he is so far away from the service ( at the other part of the earth like me.

first open the cover( strip his clouthes off ):

then turn it upside down ( to get another position and enter ur screw driver and gently open it because it still virgin ( there are 10 screws):

dont forget ones at the back

remove the front cover so youll see the under wear :

also remove the screws and youll see the real beauty :
dont forget to unpluge those strips:

take very good look at each part , isuggest to take pics to not forget each wire pluge:

unpluge those carefully:

under the left side of the board there is two wires so pull it slowly and unpluge them :

then remove the board so you've reach the lcd panels:

take out the plastic that holds this very silly filter that causes dust inaddition to his stronger brother the outside one that need clean every 50 hours:

with air compressor ofcourse add to it water filter blow between those holes then with a carpet vaccum cleaner also clean between holes ( do not use any dry clean substance or liquid cleaner just air cleaning :

after that reinstall everythin in order and turn on the the pj if didnt send it for service just kidding, and enjoy dust free bolbs.

advice to all cover ur pj with cover that comes with it after every day use ofcourse after cooling out just to ensure nothing happen to it i know its a bit over protection but just for ur own long term service free use.

best luck too all.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!
