Epson 1080 UB - horizontal split image problem

What was the end result with your issue? I am having the same problem. Put a new lamp in today and I have the same problem that you describe.

I had the exact same thing happen to me to today.

Any one figure out a fix? (maybe it corrects itself after some hours?)

Note that I purchased the replacement bulb from Epson directly (maybe a mistake?)

I have the same problem. Lamp out at 1560 hours. Replaced with no issue, but now I have the horizontal split screen.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does your old lamp still function at all? If it's not completely dead I'd reinstall it to see if the issue is present.

Thanks TF Ghost - But no, my old lamp is done. I don't believe it's possible that it's the lamp. The split is perfectly centered about the calibration image center line. Looks as though the projector is some sort of "mode".

I agree - I can't see how a lamp could cause the symptoms you're seeing unless there was some sort of film over half of it. There's no setting in the projector that can cause it...the only thing I can think of is a problem with the optical block or main board, but that's just a guess.

EDIT: No setting in the "regular" menu. I haven't played around much in the service menu...

Is the bulb housing screwed down all the way tight? I would try taking it out and reseating it, making sure it's in correctly. That's about all I can think of.

I would also look to see if the light defractor got bumped out of place (the clear bumpy panel that you can see when the bulb is removed.)

I had this problem with my 1080 UB, and was lucky because I still had a month left on the warrenty.

Epson replaced the projector (with a refurb unit).

Same issue for me here. Funny I was reading this post yesterday when I was prepping to swap the bulb. I have tried to reseat the bulb but same results. I guess a call to Epson?

Epson sent me a refurb today after a call on monday morning.
Good turn around.
The issue is fixed after hooking up the replacement.

They sent me a Black projector which looks like my Pro Cinema 1080UB, but the menus are different, I noticed the color options are not the same.

It appears that it is a Home Cinema Menu.

Looks like I'll have to call epson again and have them send another one.

Luckily, I don't have this problem. I have a small grey dust blob that you CANNOT see during movies, so no biggie. I have the international version; the EMP-TW2000....maybe there's some slight differences, ie where they are made, components, etc. GOOD LUCK YOU GUYS!

I came to the forum to start a thread, but found this one and was surprised to read that my problem is the exact same as the one in the OP.

From what I've read, replacement solves the problem (of course) but does anyone have any idea what it really is? Bulb? One of the LCD panels or light defracter panle as mentioned above?

When I replaced my bulb there was some problems getting the dead one out, but there wasn't any violent actions in removing it that might have damaged something - I think.

I sent my PJ to an Epson-recommended service center since it's not under warranty anymore, and they "cleaned the optical engine and performed an internal cleaning." However, when I tested it at home there was still a faint version of that same upper half. It's like 80% fixed, but the remaining 20% really bugs me. Annoyingly there's not a strong blue push in the bottom right corner of the image, which is another issue I'll have to point out to the service tech when I return it this week.

I find it very confusing that the issue still remains, but only in reduced state. I don't really see it on light or colourful images, only mid-dark ones (I notice it most when my PS3 is "blank" switching between applications, for instance). I can't image there would be any kind of "burn in" situation since the unit was only powered on for a minute or two when we I first noticed the problem.

Any help would be VERY appreciated.

EDIT: By the way, my unit is HC 1808, not the UB as listed in the OP.

I just replaced the bulb/lamp (2,350 hours) on my 4-year old Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 1080UB and I see the exact same horizontal line appearing across my screen.

My first thought was the new bulb must be defective but the comments here lead me to think it might be something else. Has anyone identified what exactly is causing the horizontal line? Is the bulb in the clear? I'm well beyond warranty.

I now have the exact same problem. Any resolution?

I have the exact same problem after replacing lamp. I have a Epson 8350. The screen now has a subtle horizontal line and it seems one half is slightly darker than the other. Anyone found a solution other than replacing the projector? I am currently living in Europe and don't know if Epson's warranty covers it here.
