BTW: in regards to the first edition of the Cap, wouldn't a current 15hz tuned Cap have pretty solid output down to ~13hz?

what say you mojo?

I haven't measured it down that deep because the SMS-1 graph cuts off at 15hz. The shape of the response at 15hz would indicate that it should keep going at least a couple of hz deeper. I do use a 14hz filter, so it should start to drop off below there.

The original Cap seemed to be designed to specialize in a strong response down to 11 or 12hz, but the current Cap appears that it will far excede the output of the original from 15hz on up.
^ Strikes me as sensible: increased output where the vast majority of material resides.

Prolly rattles the feathers of the 10hz and below club though.

Just because I'm an aesthetics freak, can anyone speak to how visible the port plug is for the 15hz tune with the new cabinet?

I'm hoping I can jar it up there far enough so that it's not visible...but still REMOVABLE!

thanks,
James

huh? an "aesthetics freak" buys a ginormous sub with truck bed liner finish and is concerned about a port bung? pictures at 11....

The vast majority of (true) hi performance/output subs are large boxes. Simply the way it is.

Since it's (low end output) something I won't go without, we have to do the best we can with the options available.

Dang that black oak finish looks good!

You ram it up the port until it's flush with the front baffle. Stuffing it in farther results in incongruities, creating air leaks that whistle, and makes it nigh impossible to remove without tearing. Just push it in flush, make sure it's pretty even all around, and call it good.

As for extension, you can see what it does in my reasonably large room from the sweeps I ran. The close mic graphs show what it does (reasonably) independent of the room. I prefer the 20hz tune, personally. It's a world of difference in output, and I can't say I ever thought I was missing anything.
^ thanks for that link/reminder, nube.

You're right, there appears to be PLENTY of sub 20hz output whilst still at the 20hz tuning.

damn the plug!

I just received my 2nd MFW Turbo. I am going to have some fun trying to blend everything together this weekend.

2 - Caps
2 - MFW Turbos

Might try them all up front for the wall of sound

(CAP)(Turbo)(Turbo)(CAP)

Cap under my Left
Both Turbo's under my Center
Cap under my Right.

or

Caps in Front
Turbos in rear corners

Who knows.

Sorry guys i was at the lake all week for the 4th! It sounds like today is the big day Master for your Cap! Can't wait to hear your impressions. I am going back to the drawing board and i am back to searching for a better spot for my Sub or changing my seat location. I am first going to move my seats so that they are a 1/3 or a 1/5 of my room dimension, my graphs look pretty good but it drops off between 60hz-100hz and i want to capture that area.

Jeff is going to send me a replacement driver so A+ for Jeff.
Have fun changing that driver and watch out for your fingers!

That should be fun. I wish I had extra funds to turbo my mfw's. I'm having a hard time determing if I should try to incorporate my subs with my soon to be cap or not. Right now I have 2 mfw's and a 03 or 04 SVS 12" cylinder. I also have 4 mfw drivers, but it will probably be a while before I get them into some sealed enclosures. Do you guys think it would be dumb to try to integrate all of those? Maybe all the ported subs on one pre-out (with the cap calibrated up a few or more db's) and the sealed on the 2nd? I'm also wondering if anyone has tried their cap near-field? My set up is diagonal opposed, so I can either have the cap behind the screen or directly behind the main seat (both corner loaded).
Ok.

Cap is in place and I did a one-spot Aud XT32 run just to warm things up.

As some know, I've had an SVS Ultra, Trinity, ULS-15, etc. Some pretty heavy hitters to be succinct.

I'm also not one for hyperbole.

But this thing...wow. Just. Wow.

A smooth, cube-filling type of output at low volumes that I've simply never experienced in this room before with a light run of WOTW.

Honestly, it really feels like I'm running it hot, but the Crowns gain is at NOON and the sub level on my Denon 4311 is -.5 ...just where audyssey pegged it.

I will toy some more and get pics, but as of right now, the sheer level and tone of bass this places in the room is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

Simple as that.

Back later.

Here's the question everyone wants answered: Was it worth the wait?

Lmao. So true!! Without receving mine yet, I already feel way better reading that.
You jokers and your loaded questions!

I never doubted the performance factor for a second. Not one.

100 days of waiting though? Put yourself in my shoes...I know some of you already have.

Yes it's an amazing product, but I'd like to be in my 3rd month of enjoyment, not my third hour.

Hang in there, gang.

Yes it is tough due to it's weight. I'd suggest getting another person to help. While I didn't actually change my driver, I did pull it out to look at it.
Speaking of weight...my buddy ran into a hold up so I moved my cap up a flight of stairs and into the house myself.

88 degrees and a bunch of fun.

does anyone have any experience with the captivator 1000?
I'm curious cause its a more realistic amount of money for me to spend to get into a better class of sub.

thanks.

That air isn't from the port... It's Jeff breathing a sigh of relief. :-)

mastermaybe, I'm glad to see you got your sub, the finish is very nice and it sounds (no pun intended, well, maybe a small one) like it is living up to your expectations. Congrat's.

The Turbo MFW is night and day vs the original. I will have to play around with the Caps and the Turbo on placement. I am not sure how all 4 will work together behind my screen but I will try it this weekend.

Yes, talking with him in person for an hour it was pretty clear that a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

It was a rough patch for everyone- had any of us known it was going to be so elongated I'm sure the temp in this thread would've been much cooler. It was the 4 weeks that nearly turned into 4 months though that made things a bit catty.

I'm going to watch my first place Brewers tonight in the flesh, but Ill have everything together tomorrow with a report and pics!

Thanks. My wish now is for all on the thread waiting to be experiencing the same within a week.

Afterall, we can't ALL live within 7 minutes of JTR!

I am glad you finally recieved the sub. I am also glad it is as advertised for you. I am very interested in the comparison to the trinity power and the SVS sound quality.

Check out this madness...

Out of the CRV!

Do these stairs hold 400+lbs?!

Steady now, doofus.

Almost there, shoulda removed the damn plastic.

I would recommend no one attempting to duplicate this impatient, ignorant, stunt. 160lbs 2 feet away from your body is beyond non-negotiable, and you're just asking for it. The plastic in my case was causing my hand to slip...half way up the stairs of course.

Pics are off my wife's iphone btw... somehow she got them between looking away to avoid witnessing impending doom.
