Hi, I am a real amateur in the vast world of beautiful sound. Need help from the pros in completing my setup.

I am trying to put together the following Home Theater Setup . Please let me know your experience and if this is a setup is something which is feasible. I am choosing sony becasue of 1 budget reasons so that I could somewhere make it within $600 for the combination. Also I am trying to make sure all the speakers are of one single maufacturer for consistency and compatibility purposes. The 2 combinations I am looking at are

Setup 1

1) Pioneer VSX-819H-K 5.1-Channel A/V Receiver
2) Sony SS-F6000 4-Way Floor-Standing Speaker (pair) for Front Channel
3) Sony SS-CR3000 Home Theater Speaker System with Center and 2 Surround Speakers for Centre and rear channels
4) Sony SA-W2500 100W Powered 10" Subwoofer as SubWoofer

Setup 2
1) Pioneer VSX-819H-K 5.1-Channel A/V Receiver
2) Sony SS-F6000 4-Way Floor-Standing Speaker (pair) for Front Channel
3) Sony SS-B3000 3-Way Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) for Rear Channels
4) Sony SS-CN5000 Center Channel Speaker 150W for Center Channel
5) Sony SA-W2500 100W Powered 10" Subwoofer as SubWoofer

I was planning for the setup 1 intially. But I recieved a suggestion from another audio enthusiast for the setup 2. I did like the setup 2 too.

Some of the constraints I am looking at is $600 cap on the Speaker + reciever , 5.1 Channel prefereed , Reciver with decent Inputs and outputs along with iPod compatibility and Floor Standing for the Front 2 channels.

Please let me know your thoughts, experience and expert advise. If this is a good conf or there are better combinations with the same amount.

Also Please let me know if this Sony Speakers and Pioneer 819H receiver combination works.

Thanks & Regards,
TMax

Sony speakers aren't going to get any love here but if you had the chance to audition them and like them....by all means...go with what you like.

If it was me, I would try to hit ebay or something and get some Infinity Beta bookshelves, Infinity Primus, or some kind of Polk Monitor speakers...atleast those are brand that specializes in speakers.

Or maybe start out with just 2 speakers and build from there. Quality over quantity. In the long run, you'll be much happier and actually spend less because you won't upgrade as much.

I don't know how Sony speakers compare to Fluance speakers but here is another option you can look at as well. But I would definately build quality over quantity.

I would definately go with Infinity Beta bookshelves if I can get my hands on them and get a Dayton subwoofer:

Or maybe something like this (I haven't heard them so I hope someone can give you some input):

calnbs, Thanks your your valuable suggestions.

In fact before writing down this question in the forum, i had in fact visited a local store. I have heard the sony in comparison with Klipsch speakers and the there was no comparison. Sony was performing very poorly compared to Klipsch and Vienna Acoustics.

Thank You very much Calnbs for the Fluance Suggestion. They seem to carry a very good review from many of the folks. I was trying very hard in the last 2 days at the local stores to have a live experience of these. But unfortunately no one seem to carry them. Going by the reviews and the cost i am most probably going to take the risk and go for it. I have this feeling as you had suggested that they will be definitely better than the sony that i was planning to buy at the same cost.

Anyway my last question that now remains is that can I still go with the Pioneer 819 receiver for this speakers. I just want to make sure that they are compatible. Some of the websites say that Fluance is a Bright speaker and it needs normal or bright receivers for best results. Is this Pioneer 819 a bright or normal receiver ?

Again Thanks calnbs for your valueble suggestion if you have some inputs on the receiver side that would be great.

You won't be able to find any Fluance locally, they are a small company that sells entry level speakers directly through their website and they have a dealer on ebay..I'm not sure if he's still there or not. Fluance is nothing more than entry level speakers, so don't have too much expection out of them. I was throwing them out just for comparison. From my research, they perform well, especially for the price one pays for them. From the research I gathered over the years, Fluance owners agree that if they can change or improve one thing about fluance, it would be the center speaker.

With that said, if it was my money, I would chose the infinity beta bookshelves over Fluance and Sony speakers. Infinity are well known brand. They are on clearance so they maybe a little harder to find.

Speakers will be the biggest contributor to the way sound will be produce. Unfortunately, in my experience, I haven't found much a difference between receivers. Hopefully, others can give you more input on it. The only thing I worry about receiver is if its strong enough to power them without clipping.

As for subwoofer, the Dayton is hard to beat at that price. It's not going to out perform others that cost more. I had to play around with it to max out its potential. Location is very important.

Finish everything off with your cables, wires, etc at www.monoprice.com. Hands down the best price to buy your wires and cables...feels like you are buying wholesale...best of all, they don't backstab you with high shipping cost...their shipping is very low.
