Just renovated a large room (attached), mounted a large plasma, and am now looking for a home theater system. However, I'm no expert in home theater.

So I found the Denon - 375W 5.1-Ch. Home Theater System at a local Best Buy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218088196263). Although I'm no expert on systems, the price is right ($599) for my budget. But there are two problems.

The first being it's on backorder from the manufacturer and I've never had luck when trying to purchase anything back-ordered.

The second is I can't seem to find anyone at Best Buy who can answer, what I think, is a basic question. Will this systerm work for the following?
- My room is pre-wired for 6 speakers. Plans are to use the front 4 speakers for the home theater and the 2 far rear speakers (in conjunction with the front 4) only when playing music from a connected IPOD. Can this system be wired for this?

Does anyone know if this system will work as described or if there is a closely priced solution with similar quality (and I'm hoping this Denon is of decent quality)?

Thanks in advance.

a couple of comments....the system you mention has speakers that are probably too small (3" mid/woofers and an 8" subwoofer) for the area you want to cover....and the rear speakers, all the way back on the rear wall are too far back for proper 7.1 imaging. You might want to consider in-ceiling units for the rears or just a 5.1 setup.

Thanks for the feedback. This system is actually a 5.1 system and my plans are to use only the frontmost 4 speakers for the surround sound (10'x10' area). I was hoping to use the rear 2 only for playing music (in conjunction with the front 4 - when not using them for surround sound). Possibly I need to get an AB switch for the rear speakers. Not sure.

Thanks again.

try to save a bit more, and up your budget to allow for an a/v receiver with a true Zone B setup that can actually play a source other than the one used by the HT Zone A, or use the same source if you want. I think you could look at the Denon 1910 has that feature, as well as the Onkyo SR607.

For the speakers, let's discuss "preferences" first. On-wall ? in-wall ? bookshelf units on stands ? tower speakers ? What type of speakers are you thinking of using, other than the small one that came with the poorly spec'ed BB system ?
