Speaker Mounts

Hi,

I just got a Onkyo HTS3200 and I need to ceiling mount some of the speaker. Since there are no standard holes to connect to a cieling mount, I'm thinking I have to screw right into the speaker casings. Does anyone know how much room I have before I come close to damaging anything inside?

Or am I crazy for trying this? Would I be better of doing something else that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks,
Justin.

I'd think twice about drilling holes in your speakers. If it was me, I'd either go with stands or shelves.

Don't drill. Use some industrial strength velcro to secure the speakers.

Don't drill, the speaker enclosure is a large part of what gives you the sound you hear, putting another hole in the box/enclosure would cause a airgap(?) that would negatively impact your sound.
Velcro, or use something that wraps around.

After I read you post I was on my way to Fry's. So I headed over to the HTIB section. The 3200 speakers are plastic, no way I'd drill a hole in those. They're pretty light too. Like the others said above, just use a strip of industrial strength Velcro and that should hold them in place.

Thanks guys,
I'll try that. The strength of the velcro doesn't worry me as much as the strength of the adhesive on a painted drywall ceiling. Is this something to be worried about or is the adhesive pretty strong?

Get a speaker mount that you can put on the wall with screws and on the other end use velcro strips to attach the speaker to the mount.

Something like this you can attach to the wall and then use velcro on the other end for your 3200 speakers.

Talking about Hts-3200 speakers, does any one know how far back they can go from the listener?

You'll waste your speakers if your drill it. There are shelves in the market that are not space consuming and not too costly at the same time. Just go out and look for the one that suits your speakers.
