PJ for $700 or less...

I'm getting ready to make the jump into the PJ swimming pool for the first time, so I'm looking for do it at a super budget level. I'm planning on using the setup in my garage I'm converting to a game room. I'll be watching mostly sports, music videos and movies every once and a while on it.

I can get a HD65 for around $700, is that pretty much the best bang for the buck I can get at that price point right now?

You can pick up the Mitsubishi HC-1600 or PLV-Z60 for under $700. I had the HC-1500 and was was impressed with it's PQ. I do think the HD65 throws out quite a bit more light, but if I had to guess the HC-1500 offers a better PQ and the Sanyo offers better placement flexibility. I guess it really depends on what your needs are.

I recommend the Optoma HD65 720p DLP Home Theater Projector, around $600. Colors are great and accurate. Skin tones looks natural.

or Viewsonic PJD6220-3D Multimedia Projector

it is $700.

The HC-1500 is a better projector than the HC-1600. They changed the color wheel (segments and speed) on the 1600. Biggest problem is the 2X speed. Makes it easier to see rainbows.

The Epson HC720 is @950.00 with a free lamp right now. You could sell the lamp on Ebay for @250.00. That would put your net cost @700.00. It has plenty of lens shift and brightness for a garage setup.

Wow, tough decision since the Optoma HD20 is advertised around $900 or so. If you get a used projector, you'll run into lamp issues possibly. If you get new 720p, you'll be settling for older technology. I would buck up and spend an extra couple hundred--you won't regret it 6 months from now. Even it if means showing the image on a painted wall for now.

k5james -- The new Epson 705HD is available for pre-order, now, at a price very close to your $700 number. Nobody has reviewed it yet, but it is a very bright 1280 x 800 LCD PJ with no "bells & whistles" to go wrong and has a 2 year warranty (http://www.projectorreviews.com/blog...view/#more-465).

Yeah, that's the thing. This projector is going to be for watching sporting events (NFL, UFC, MLB, etc...), playing music videos during parties, gaming (Rockband) and the occasional movie.

In a few years, I'm going to upgrade to a bigger house and HT room but for now I don't think I really need up to date technology (1080p).

To give some perspective. I was blown away watching the Twins/Yankees game on my friends Panny AX200U.
