My UN55B8500 was delivered yesterday by Pilot. They carried it in and unboxed it and set it up on my stand. They waited till I hooked up my HD-DVR via HDMI to verify a picture and they were off.

So far everything is looking great and hope it stays that way.

That is from Standout Designs (a forum sponser) it is a model N701. Great stands and a great company to deal with.

I am really digging that stand too motoman and I really need one now. I am deciding to get this or the Z line stands that I see at Frys all the time.

I'm ready to dump this tv for whatever I can get for it and get a new one but this time want a tv with little to no input lag for gaming....

Thanks

I love Game Mode on this TV. I have been playing Uncharted 2 for PS3 and use Game Mode and it just Truly brings out all the Colors in this game. Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time also looks great when in Game Mode.

That's funny because I could have sworn I've seen the response time on the Samsung website. Cnet has the specs at 2ms for response time, and that seems pretty accurate to me.

I'd appreciate if someone could explain how PIP works on this. I've got an old analog TV that's extremely flexible in regard to putting any input in either the main or PIP windows, but I've read that new sets don't allow much with PIP.

I downloaded the manual but it wasn't completely clear to me from reading it.

Thanks

Recent Samsungs (and Sony's, and other models) have only one integrated (ATSC/QAM) internal TV tuner, and it's the only input allowed in the PIP window. Meanwhile, the main window is capable of displaying input from the TV tuner or from external sources (e.g cable boxes) fed via component, HDMI, etc.

Therefore, for example, you could split your coax cable and connect one lead to the cable box and connect the other to the RF (tuner) input. The box connected via component or HDMI would play in the main window, and the tuner would play in the PIP window (after you do Auto Program to scan for channels off the cable itself). (The cable itself (without cable box) carries basic digital cable channels as well as local broadcast digital channels in HD and the QAM tuner can pick them up.). Or an antenna connected to the RF input would allow the ATSC tuner to display local digital broadcast channels (including HD) in the main or PIP window.

Amazon. Wanted to buy from Chris @ CP but Amazon got stock in and I was able to get the free Samsung BR player. I'll sell off the BR player and lower the price a little. I was tired of waiting and just did it. Wanted to buy from a reliable source and I was comfortable with CP or Amazon.

I was able to pickup the N701 when they had their moving sale and it was $999 with free shipping and I bought the shelf and cooler kits. I had been through 3 different stands with different TV's and was tired of cheapo stuff. Decided to get something that will last no matter what TV I get in the future.

I see that Cleveland already has the 55 down to 4k with shipping. I would hope that it's down around 3k by Jan or Feb.

Not a chance in a million of that happening

Right, just like there is no way to get the 55" 8500 for less than $3200 OTD NOW.

Lets see. It came out in August and it's already down to 4k. That's 500 in 2 months or so. Now there is Black Friday, Christmas and the Super Bowl coming up. So it stands that it is realistically possible for it to drop that much or at least be on sale for close to it.

you're right about laser. a company in China is messing around with it for 3D projection in cinema and if it comes to pass, it will blow away all of these other display technologies...but laser displays in home theater are still aways off, IMHO...but it doesn't hurt to dream big!

You are missing the idea. The list last year was usually $4500 and the best street prices were around $3800 through the announcement of the new models last spring. Occasionally, the list dropped to around $4200 and then it went back to $4900. BUT, the street price never went much below $3800.

The street price drop is all that counts and it never dropped below $3800 UNTIL the 950 was discontinued. The 8500 is their flagship and they are not going to have a wholesale drop until they discontinue because it will impact sales of their mid tier plus it's a limited production item. They wouldn't be able to supply the demand at $3000.

If you got it at that price it's an aberration and not indicative of what the general population can get it. Let me know when you can readily buy it for $3200.

I've been observing high end models since buying my Sony XBR 450 new in 2001. In general, I've noticed the max reduction from list is about 27% and usually occurs when they start showing the replacement. I also think it occurs shortly after introduction for a few weeks: on my Samsung 52A860 it occurred in Sept 2008, a few weeks after the model was available in stores.

The TV seems to be working fine but on one Blu-ray DVD, I did see the mysterious cropfields that someone else mentioned. I only saw in once so I am on the lookout for it to reappear. I did contact Samsung and they said they had no similar complaints reported.

I think the bottom line with USAppliance, is that if you have a problem you have to deal with Samsung. That is what you have to put up with if you want to say $$$$'s over a local dealer.

Ben, Do the circles appear across the middle of your screen...From left to right etc.???

I'd also like to know where the build date sticker is?

********UPDATE:*********

I spoke to a samsung "Executive customer service rep" I explained the problem about the circles and how others are experiencing the same issue. I also will be sending along a screen shot of the problem. Basically anyone with this issue should call samsung and report it so they can come out with an update for the sets that are out, and start on the sets that have not been made yet.
If we dont report it than nothing will get done anytime soon.

I will walk you through what I did:
I called 1-800-samsung, spoke to "Justin" in dtv & home appliance dept. Gave him my info and asked him to escalate this to the ECR (executive customer relations) dept. If you dont ask for it to be escalated they will tell you someone will contact you in 2-3 days from there. He connected me with them right away!!
Spoke with Timisha in ECR and documented the problem. I got her email and sent her the pic's.

Thats it...its that easy. If we can all get on the band wagon and make some noise maybe we can identify what this isssue is and get it fixed. I know 1 thing is certain, im not buying anything until this gets resolved.

BTW...They asked for a serial number and I told them I returned the tv...no big deal, she still documented everything.

Hope you peeps follow up on this...thanks!

Well, from a soon-to-be owner of this TV (just received my shipping information from US Appliance today), I thank you for taking the initiative to help solve this issue. Hopefully this is a rare issue and is not a defect in the hardware.

Also thanks outlaw.Im really interested in this set for purchase in a few weeks.Grateful to you if this circle issue gets resolved before I make my purchase.Something this pricey needs to be pretty close to perfect if Samsung expects to move enough units to make a profit.
