Official UNXXB8500 Series Owners Thread - Page 103

I know, right? Well now I can definitely see how it could take 10+ seconds to start things up, especially when it changes inputs and other settings.

The topic certainly caught my interest though as I've been eyeing a Harmony remote for awhile. TV, denon, STB, oppo, hddvd, ps3, cd...it adds up!
I highly recommend the Harmony Remote. The set up is simple and the ability to have everything turned on and tuned with the push of one button is magical. I really like that it uses the direct source buttons so you don't have to go into any menus to switch from one input to another.

Maybe Mrs. Santa will put one under the tree...
where do I find latest firmware, and is it safe to load it and which firmware version is the best to keep it. thanks!
If your sent doesn't have any problems. I wouldn't advise updating.
Have anyone experienced plastic coming off/peeling off on the edges of the bezel. Can this be rectify under warranty ?
I know it can scratch easily but as for actual chipping. I don't think is normal. I remember that happening to someone else on this thread before. They called and samsung did a full bezel replacement. I'd look into it. Call it out. It isn't suppose to chip/crack at all.

I agree with Jukebox; unless you are having a problem, I would skip it.

I have no signs of that happening. This may seem like a dumb question, but you did remove the scratch resistant plastic sheet that was on there when you unpacked it, right?

Doesn't sound dumb. You'd be surprised how many people forget that lol.
all protective plastic has been removed about four months ago.

btw: picture quality is simply amazing, I do not think there is better TV on market today

I totally agree, but it has also big negative effect. Because of this TV I can't stand to watch my other 1080p LCD and I am seriously thinking to get rid off it.
I just wish to have an option to get another Samsung UNxxB8500! Yes, that's how bad it can go....

On top of this suddenly my friend's Sony Bravia doesn't look as good any more. Same time my other friend's Kuro is not as perfect, especially in daylight. Also Kuro's frame has somehow too much distraction for me. I am not even sure why...

It goes so bad now I am freaking out to even replace my old DTV HD20 receiver, after I saw newest HD24 on Bravia. Somehow it's a little grainy to my taste which I never noticed on my TV.
I am not sure if it's because of TV or receiver, so I guess I am stuck....

Hey look man, we never
said owning an 8500 was going to be easy, hahahahah

But I know what you mean; I go to the theater now and marvel
at how crappy their big screen looks.
Going to the movies makes me want to invest in a DLP set. But then I remember how bad off angle viewing is for them and they have a higher death rate then most sets. So I pass.
Hopefully Samsung will have some great new backlit TVS in 2011.

I am surprised that they have not released any roadmap or list of TVs for 2011 yet...

CES is happening in what next two weeks or less if you subtract all the holidays and weekends.

I think high PQ sets will not be forthcoming. Prices are falling quite low, too low to justify the investment in costly sets that have not sold well. And manufacturers are pushing 3D.
I had to buy my UN55B8500 used, and it was a hassle, but it still is under waranty and it is just fabulous!

I got my UN55B8500 on Craigs List in NY. I saw one for sale, agreed to buy it but was scooped. Then I found another, talked to the owner and said I would drop everything and put a deposit on it in 30 minutes. These sets are available, but not often and in demand, for good reason.

I got this because I believe that high PQ sets will not be manufactured in the near term.

I have the UN55B8500 and I can't find a setting on the TV that tells me the signal strength of OTA reception. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Hit info? lol. Tells you everything.
You have to go into the settings. It's one of the ones at the bottom. You'd think it would be under Channels, but it's not.

If anyone knows where I can get a B8500 without an outrageous price tag, then do tell. At this point, I'm willing to trade my mint 5020 Kuro plus cash for even a 46".

Has anyone seen any for sale lately?

No one is going to trade an 8500 for a KURO. I wouldn't expect this set to be sold for anything cheaper then 2k.

Hey all

I recently sold my 46b8500 that was shipped. And despite packing that could contain a gorilla, the apes at UPS managed to cause some damage. THANKFULLY the damage is the plastic bezel and not the screen.

Does anyone have suggestions on a source for parts?

Greatly appreciated
Make those NOOBS pay the damage.
We have a claim in but as you all know this tv is too special to give back. So the hope is to get it repaired. Local shops are quoting $275 in labor alone which sounds like bs. Is there a good source for parts someone can suggest

new 55b8500 owner here. Just wanted to thank everyone for the contributions to the thread. It only too me 5 days to read it all!

I was lucky enough to pick up a leftover new in the box 55 from the distribution company I work for, for $1400. I think I got a pretty good deal. loving the set so far, just deciding if I should pay for a certified calibration or not. I am currently running the settings from tweaktv and they look great.

1400!? Wow.
My 8500 seems to have developed a clouding problem. I have started to notice it during certain scenes. For example, last night I was watching the first X-files movie and the extensive clouding during scenes was so bad that it became very distracting. It presented as a series of lighter circles at regular intervals throughout the screen. I have never noticed this before. My TV was calibrated by D-Nice and the smart dimming is on so I don't think my settings are off. Can clouding develop over time? Any help would be appreciated

I wouldn't trade my A950 for a Kuro let alone an 8500
