Sorry...cant help you. I'm having too much fun with Standard mode. I know its not accurate but this set is still new to me and just enjoying the tremendous pq. After the newness wares off, I'll spend some time dialing in the picture.

I have a question about mounting the 8500 55" to a stand. Im looking at either this stand http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ct_id=10843655 or this one http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ct_id=10793964 The Palisade looks like it would be good for my needs, right dimensions etc, but im not sure if the 55" will fit on that mount in the back of the stand. Ive never mounted a tv like this before so im a newbie when it comes to this stuff. Does it look like it will fit to anyone? Also on page 88 of the manual, it says to use the "Holder-Ring" for a wall mount other than the Samsung one, would I use that one with either one of the stands I linked to?
Well both stands call for smaller than 55 sets. The set and stand it comes mounted on looks so good that you could just buy a flat surface stand and just rest it on it.The 8500 has a special but expensive wall mount device and that holder ring is what you use it with.It will mount pretty close to the wall like a picture frame if thats something you might want.

I'm trying to decide on the 8000 or 8500. Do you guys think the 8500 is worth the significant extra $ it costs to warrant a purchase over the 8000. To me, I feel like the 8000 is the sweet spot. I've looked at the 8000 in BB numerous times and convinced it is the best LCD they carry right now (haven't seen an 8500). So many people seem to be complaining about the problems with the 8000 that are supposedly fixed with the 8500. But then there are many owners who dramatically adjusted settings on the 8000 with mind-blowing results-and who attribute these "issues" with insanely poor factory settings/calibration.

I'm looking to order very soon, as I've waited the entire summer for the prices on the 8000 to drop, but now I have to deal with the option of the 8500.

Just trying to get a good opinion on whether the 8000, after properly adjusted etc, is almost equivalent to the 8500. Or whether the problems of the 8000 and superior picture quality (is this fact?) of the 8500 is worth the pretty big step up (usually around $1000 price gap). I just don't want to regret not spending the extra loot to get the TV I was really looking for.

Any opinions or advice?

8000 is a great set, a bud of mine just bought a 46". I've decided to sell my plasma, so I'm going for the 8500 because I want local dimming, not side lit.

When would we see the best 3 month price on the 8500??

1) B Friday
2) Around Christmas
3) Superbowl time

I'm basically gonna buy my 55" 8500 between B Friday and Feb 1, and it'll be with Best Buy. There will be no rush (I will be without a house for 2 months ), so if I should wait out the super bowl sales, thats fine. Thanks for any sales input!

Anyones guess with best buy. They just set it up in the ma. store for full price.Cant imagine anyone shelling out that kind of money so if they dont sell perhaps something will happen on black friday or after christmas.Dont rule out online where cleveland plasma already beats best buy price.
Yeah, I wont. I usually spend the big bucks locally with my BBuy card and a no interest deal, then pay it off in a couple of months. I gotta think that price is gonna come down, it's just too darn high. Unless it is real good at B Friday, I'll prob wait till the after Christmas pricing.

It is one helluva tv, so it's worth waiting on. I made the mistake of buying my Plasma the week it came out, then 5 months later it was $800 less...

Given this is the current flagship of the Samsung line, I wouldn't think the best price would be available until around Superbowl time.
Yeah, I'm thinking B Friday will not offer much, but I'll be watching. I'm gonna keep an eye on deals from now till the Bowl.

I'm damn excited though!

I would go with 8500 simply because of backlit local dimming....no brainer man! Trust me, i've been on the fence as well and even though I got a lemon on my 1st one, my new one is all that and a bag of chips lol

Hey I remember you from the original PZ85U thread. I have a 55B8500 coming sometime this week. I sold my 50PZ85U about 8 weeks ago and I'm really looking forward to getting my 8500. It will be interesting to compare the two. If I can remember what the plasma looked like... I saw a 55B8500 last week at our local Fry's and was on a quest to find one from that point on.

Good luck in your search.

Haha, funny how things change. I got a guy on Craigs List buying 85u next weekend!

Moving to Alabama for a new job, and will be living with inlaws till Feb 1. Will be buying the 8500 somewhere around then. Plasmas are great, but this new LED tv from Sammy has great blacks now, great colors, and the AMP features work awesome.

Let me know how you like it.

Good luck with the move and new job. You should be able to get a good deal on a set then. I bought my 50PZ85U when it first came out also so I guess I didn't learn. Oh well.... I moved my Toshiba 40RF350U from the bedroom into the den when I sold the 50PZ85U so I was getting a little tired of the small set.

Hehe. Yeah, I bought my 85u the first week of April, right after release, and paid about $800 more than it was 4 months later

I figure I'll get a damn good price around the Super Bowl. Maybe you guys will have some good user settings by then

I just replaced my V10 with the 8500. The 8500 is truely breathtaking.

Nice!

Caeguy, could you go into detail as to why you dumped your recently purchased v10 for the 8500?
The US Apliance deal almost got me to budge. I'm still waiting till Jan or Feb to pick this set up. Hopefully any and all bugs will have been fixed by then too.

Loving the reviews so far for this TV. It will replace my 1 year old A650, which I'll put in the family room or sell it for a smaller set for the bedroom

Glad I'm not the only one that will be sitting here jealous for the next 3 months

Priorities!

At the current price, I imagine we won't be the only two chomping at the bit!

I had a defective panel confirmed by a Panasonic approved technician. BB could not get me another unit to replace it so I needed to choose another brand. I choose a UN55B8500.

Living with the V10 for a couple of months allowed me to really evaluated it. IMHO... its a great set and even better value. A couple of items disappointed me however. I never felt the PQ was sharp and the picture seemed to have more noise than my older Panasonic plasma. The blacks were good but not as deep as I was expecting..especially in the daytime. It really needs more picture controls to dial in the PQ.

Now that I have the 8500, the PQ is truly stunning. The PQ is razor sharp, bright, locked on, and plenty of controls to achieve a great picture. It's still new to me since I just received it on Saturday but for now, this is a great set.

Send me a PM if you need additional details.

As a long time plasma owner, I've always felt the above were accurate. Now that LCD's are getting the blacks, they are a better choice IMHO.

Indeed, by Feb I expect to have the 55" for under $3k. I'm in need of a TV stand as well. My current one I'm embarrassed to say was bought at Target in the middle of buying our first house nearly 5 years ago. With a three year old running around needless to say it's in rough shape.

I havn't been looking seriously, but I should have time to find a good stand by feb!

Hey guys. I've been looking to purchase the 8000 for a while, and recently the 8500 came out. A little backstory, I bought a samsung 50 inch 720p plasma 2 years ago. It was a rushed purchase and this time I want to buy a TV that has top quality. I don't want to fall behind tech wise as fast this time around. I don't know a lot about LED/LCD vs Plasma. I know I find the life likeness of the LED's to be very appealing, so does my wife. I play a lot of PS3 games and watch a lot of sports. I just want to know if the 8500 is worth the extra $ over the 8000? Will I notice the difference? Is the 8500 better than the 240 hz XBR 9? I'm sorry about all the questions, I just want some reassurance from those who know more than I. Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

I do the same thing with my TVs. Play a lot of PS3 and watch a lot of sports as well and that is why I bought this TV. I think you'll be amazed how good the games will look with this TV. Plus, someone on here, I think Lindsey, did a lag test and found it to be 30-40us. I tried to confirm that it was really microseconds and not milliseconds, but haven't heard back. Regardless, even if it was 30-40ms, it would still be pretty good. The local dimming LEDs is the key to this TV where it gives you inky blacks and bright areas all on the same image. Bottom line, if you can afford this TV and want the best LCD out there, buy it.

I saw both the B8000 and B8500 at Fry's today and there's no question in my mind that the B8500 is superior to the 8000. It's simply that stellar.

I remember us talking about the processor on the Panny and all the noise. The Panny bigots won't admit it but it's true. The PQ on the 8500 is as crisp as anything in the industry
post #90 of 3712
The plasmas have always had what I considered a little more noise. My first plasma was awesome, but the early XBR models were more sharp. Now that blacks are better, I'll take the sharp PQ.
