Same here, ordered on Amazon yesterday.

First time I'm buying such an expensive piece of hardware without even seeing it. Called Customer Service and they assured me that "white glove"(enhanced delivery) option will be provided - assembling, powering on and checking for the dead pixels.

Thank you all folks for your comments, even for negative ones.

My 55 was bought from Amazon and delivered via Pilot Air. They brought the box in and unboxed it and lifted it up on my stand. They then waited for me to plug in my HDMI cable and I then turned it on and checked everything out. Once I was satisified I signed and off they went. Never felt rushed or had to ask them to do anything else. I was very nervous also since it was my first online TV purchase but for me everything worked out great.

Congrats on your new set. Enjoy

Jim

i opted for the standard shipping from us appliances...

I dont need help setting it up but i definitely want to be able to check out the tv before i sign off on it. i was under the impression that white glove service meant they setup, moved, installed, etc... while standard shipping services will simply open it up and verify the unit is working (which is all i want anyway)

I used the non-white glove shipping, and they only bring the box inside, they won't set it up.

I'd suggest when they show up that you open the box, inspect everything for physical damage, and if good, sign away. Wait a couple of hours before plugging it in (depending on how cold it is outside) so the set's temperature has a change to equalize, limiting any moisture that could form inside.

When my first set showed up from us appliance I signed for it immediately because I was in a hurry. Turned out the tv was damaged. Called up US appliance and they handled everything very quickly, even though I had already signed for it. I really wouldn't recommend turning it on while they're there, since you risk damage to the set (again, if it's cold outside)

When ordering from US Appliance, how did you find out your TV shipped and is on its way to you? Then, do you just wait for the shipper to call in order to set up a date/time for delivery?

i'm thinking of jumping on the 55'' 8500 but had one quick question. what do you all suggest for extended warranty? what sort of options do I have and what is worth it and what isn't? Given the online prices, I'd probably purchase from US appliance, but wanted a little insight into the extended warranty
post #671 of 3711
Well you get a year from Samsung and another year from Visa if you use their credit card.I rode it out 7 years ago with my pioneer plasma but in year 3 i bought a 3 year warrantech from Amazon.Never used it.Set still as good as new
Im going to do the same kind of thing with my new 8500.Dontr buy a warranty that runs first year since you have one from samsung.
fyi - when you register with samsung, they will increase the warranty period an extra 3 months..

Anybody know who sells these sets in the Lower Mainland in BC, Canada ?
None of the big box stores carry them.
Wow! The 8500 is discontinued along with the B750s!

I don't know what to do. I was going to get the 8500 for the living room and move the B750 into the bedroom. My concern is that with the 8500 being discontinued and with the crop circle issue (although fixed in firmware, that firmware has not been posted) that Samsung will be able to service or help repair it if something goes wrong over the next year

I did not have plan B -- I will have to look around and then decide...wow this is downer!

mine was delivered on wed. by Pilo also. they brought it into the house and asked where i wanted it. i had them put it just inside the door and asked if they had to turn it on and check it before they left. they said not to turn it on until it warms up. it was 20degrees outside and it was in the truck all morning so it was COLD. the guys were cool though. i was under the impression that if it wasnt freezin, they would have fired it up to make sure everything was ok. we slid the box off to check for any obvious damage and were on there way. i waited a couple hours for it to warm up. everything is as expected so far.

discontinued doesnt mean not available. amazon still has the 8500 for $3749. as far as repairs for any future issues, its the same as any other samsung. most if not all of the new sets are discontinued and replaced by newer models on a yearly basis.

That should affect lot more of the models, then. Only the lowest end TVs would use TN panels and I'm not aware of any units in Samsung's lineup using IPS panels.

Just threw down for the 8500 earlier today from USAppliance...forget waiting for 3D...discontinuation rumors did push the decision though.

Don't worry, you're in good hands. I bought mine the same way and the guy assembled the stand, helped me mount the display on the stand, and waited until I turned it on and made sure it looked fine before having me sign the papers.

This service, which used to be called "white glove" service, is the standard, free Amazon delivery service now. Go Amazon.com!

Anyone have this problem with their set?

Basically, the bottom third of the TV is very dimly lit, as though the LEDs in that whole area are dim or off. I tried turning the TV off and on again, and unplugging the power cable, but neither fixed the problem. I also tried playing around with the picture settings, but to no avail.

I took these pics at Fry's in City of Industry, CA. Movie is Pearl Harbor, I think, on Bluray via HDMI. The TV had been working fine last week when I saw it.

Hi Taphil,

I've had my un55b8500 for 3 months now without any problems. I have not encountered your problem. Does that problem with the darken lower screen happen when you watch regular TV or is it just when you're watching dvds?
