Hi All:
I live in Mount Airy, NC (Greensboro, NC) market. My Scientific Atlantic 8240 HDC DVR from Time Warner was recently automatically updated with the new Time Warner Navigator software. I'm guessing the local area was done at once but not sure on that. My DVR worked flawlessly before this.
Since the update, I can still view channels with no problem. However, I can no longer record anything at all, whether scheduled or whether I just hit Record on the channel I'm watching. If I do that, I see the REC indicator come on on screen for just a second or two and then it goes away. If I then flip over to the Recording Log, I see a message saying that (example for Survivor) "Not recorded because the channel was not available(2).
This happens whether I try to record on a standard definition or a high definition channel. I called TWC and they did a reset on the box which had no effect. The CSR said the cable box must be bad although it was working perfectly before. So, a tech is coming out Monday evening.
Some other things I have noticed:
All of my recordings prior to the firmware are intact and play fine.
Prior to the update, when I powered my DVR off and back on, it would return to the channel I was last watching. After the update, it only comes back on Channel 1 and I don't see any setting to allow me to change this. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place?
Also, in the old software, there was a place to globally set the default for any recording to never be deleted when space was needed by the DVR. Now, I'm unable to find a similar setting. It appears that I have to set each recording individually to never delete. Is there a setting somewhere for this that I'm missing?
I'm hoping I can fix this without a new box as I'm a bit behind on my DVR shows! Most of them are recorded to an eSATA drive I have connected to the DVR but I'm thinking that these will not work if the eSATA drive is connected to a new DVR.
I've got a feeling all of the problems are due to bugs in the new software. My DVR was working perfectly before and I had no problems with the old SARA software. Now, I can't even record!
Any ideas or advice are much appreciated!
Drew
