Subs rattling my Jeep.

So i have two 10inch jl audio subs and they are very old. but hey they still work! Anyways i am having problems with a 1999 jeep cherokee sport. The subs face out the back and the inside rattles where the gate opens. Does anyone know how to stop this ANNOYING rattling?! let me know please!

By "the inside" do you mean the plastic interior of the vehicle?

If so, there are materials you can place underneath that might help to dampen sounds and limit vibrations. Some are very good and others may run into durability issues depending on the heat your vehicle is exposed to and what material you select. Also, depending on your exact issue - you may need a little or a lot.

You might try searching google for sites that are more focused on this kind of issue. Try "Auto sound deading" or "Auto audio dampeners" - I found quite a bit when I researched it myself.

Most of the car sub stuff, and rattling comes from one of two things....

1) poor/low quality amps/drivers/enclosures (resulting in distortion, and resonance)
2) Loose nuts, bolts, plastic clips, and/or rubbing parts. Take every nut, bolt, plastic piece in the car, adding damping, and tightening everything down.

That and people cranking them so loud that you can hear them 5 cars back and both vehicles windows are closed.

You might want to ask this in the car audio forum of AVS - might get a few different suggestions, since car audio is the focus, obviously.
