Pioneer VSX-94TXH very low sub output

I finally got around to hooking up my AV123 Rockets and MFW-15 sub to my Pioneer VSX-94TXH, everything went great during the auto setup - all speakers and sub were detected. However when I play from any source on the receiver I get very little bass from my sub, even with the gain turned all the way up. I have even tried increasing the channel output for the Sub to the max 10 db in the setup, but that doesn't seem to help. I know the sub works fine because I can connect another source to the LFE and it can shake the house at mid gain.

Any thoughts? It is setup? Is it firmware?

Thanks

Do you own a SPL meter? If so run manual speaker setup and see if you can output the sub at 75db. You could have a bad cable, bad sub , bad output on the receiver. We can get to the bottom of this quickly.

if you do not own a SPL , run mcacc and see if the system tells you sub out is to low. It will tell you as it automatically adjusts all levels including the sub.

On a side note most people are used to listening to a system with way to much bass. You should not hear the sub most of the time. you should however feel it when it fires. A finely tuned system does not call attention to itself . It works as a unit. I recreates what was recorded.

I do not own a SPL. I ran the mccac setup again and it did force me to turn down the sub before continuing. What does this tell me?

I know the sub can't be bad since any other source works fine.

Thanks

Considering you are getting healthy enough output from the sub during MCACC in order for the 94 to prompt you to turn it down says that the receiver's output to the sub is working (at least during MCACC tests).

After you run MCACC, and assuming MCACC set your fronts as large, have you gone back into the manual speaker settings menu of the 94 and change the subwoofer from Yes to Plus?

I will try that when I get home tonight. I'm also told that I should set all my speakers to small rather than large.

thanks

I don't have the option to set the sub to Plus.

If this is the case, then your speakers are all set to Small. The Plus setting is only available when the fronts are set to Large either by MCACC or through manually setting up the speaker system.

Your issue is something I have never run up against in the 17 years selling Elite so it is difficult to say what the problem is.

The best thing is to tackle this in steps. Run the manual test tone and see what kind of output the sub has. Double/triple check your connections and/or try another sub cable. Set up the speaker system manually. Experiment with subwoofer placement in room, if possible. Check you LFE setting in the audio parameters menu (page 72). Perform a system reset (page 75) and start all over again. Connect the 94 to another system (i.e friend's house, local Elite retailer, etc.). Yes, these can be long shots but worth doing before calling Pioneer for service.

Also, try asking this question in the dedicated VSX94 Owners Thread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...ghlight=vsx+94 Perhaps someone else who has had this happen can shed some light on it. Best of luck in getting it figured out.

try changing your speakers to large and go into speaker level program in setup menu find the channel level and raise them to higher numbers, my sub level is set at 19 before sound starts to distort. I have the 74txv with a m&k sound v76 sub.
