I just bought the LG 55LHX at BB. I got the TV home and looked at the manufacturers sticker on the back where the serial number is. I noticed the Model listed as 55LH95. Above the sticker is says 55LHX. I was confused about this and contacted BB and LG. They both said that the 55LHX and the 55LH95 are the same. It seems to be a marketing branding thing but it was confusing to me. I wanted to see if anyone else had noticed this.

I was under the impression the LH95 was the Euro version. Take a quick look and make sure it isn't a PAL setup and the refresh rates are referenced in 60hz increments.

I'm not sure how to check the things you mentioned. Can you please explain how to determine whether I have the PAL version or the 60Hz refresh rate? Thanks.

We're thinking of buying the 55LHX but have concerns about the wireless connection... LG customer service says it's "line of sight"... does that mean you can't put the box under the TV or behind the couch? What happens when someone gets up for another beer... do you miss the next play? It doesn't make sense to me... does any one have any experience with this?

Also, I've heard the "new" speakers in the latest TVs are really bad and you need a surround sound system... how does the 55LHX sound?

As to your first question... it's not exactly 'line of sight'. At BB they had the box inside of a cabinet close to the floor with the TV hanging about 6' above on the wall. Before I got mine hung on the wall I had the box on a coffee table along one wall and the TV sitting on the floor about 10' away and pointing in another direction. I think it uses some type of radio wave so "pointing" the box at the TV is not necessary.

As for the speakers..... they sound like regular TV speakers. They certainly don't sound like my 5:1 surround sound coming from my amplifier and I don't think it would be fair to expect them to. Normally I don't need surround sound to listen to a regular TV program. When I really want good sound I kick in the stereo. The audio connection coming out of the box is digital optical.

All of the sudden my Wireless Media box is not transmitting a signal. we've had no lightning storms or anything. Nothing changed, it just stopped working. I've unplugged everything and rebooted. I have plugged into HDMI5 in the back and it seems fine, so has anyone else had this happen to them?

Can anyone tell me what the latest FW version is for this set? Also, is there a separate FW for the media box and the TV? I just bought a floor model from BB (picking it up after work) and I want to make sure it is up-to-date. Thanks

I'm starting to see deep discounting of the 55LHX (especially for display models)... can anyone speak to what problems I should look for in the store and within the first few weeks? I have no issues with buying a display model if all is good from the get-go (gotta love credit cards that extend manufacturers warranties for free )

from what I've gathered from this thread, there are the general issues with LED LCDs (off-axis viewing, minor blooming off axis), a few have seen 'distortion' on the lower portion of the screen, and one apparent hardware failure. The posted instructions earlier in this thread indicate that 'momentary horizontal stripe/screen vibration' can be caused by an obstruction of the wireless signal (even people passing between)... this seems consistent with the distortion people have been seeing. Has anyone noticed any of these distortions when running over HDMI? I have no interest in the wireless, and will basically be using the media box as an HDMI switch (hdmi concealed in the wall behind TV).

I've run the full circle from LCD to plasma to LCD while considering the pros and cons and whether or not I want to go 3D yet. I'd really rather go with a PJ for 3d once go that route, so the daytime, bright room considerations are winning the battle here, and the LHX is intriguing with very high brightness and the matte screen. Seems a better solution for my need than the newer LE8500 with its very reflective screen. Any other things to note before making a decision on the LHX???

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents. I purchased a floor model 6 days ago at BB. Purchased for $1899 and $299 for the warranty and they gave me a free wall mount.

The set has a great picture and I love how adjustable the settings are (they are pretty easily manipulated). The media box was set at about a 70 degree angle from the television (pretty side facing out) about 10 feet away and I didn't notice any picture problem. I am by no means an expert on quality, only quantity I love the idea of wireless, only time will tell if this TV will hold up. I thought it was worth the risk for the price and the quality. I can always just plug it in, but that's no fun! So, now the problem:

I noticed the fan running a little louder than I had originally anticipated over the first 5 days, and this morning when I woke up the box refuses to turn on.

I spoke with BB and they are trying to find a floor model replacement for ease, but didn't promise anything. I then contacted LG. The rep was extremely nice and he was very professional. Unfortunately, they won't be able to get anyone out here until Monday afternoon.

So, if you're looking at purchasing this television as a floor model, be prepared for a possible disturbance in your television viewing experience. But for the price I don't feel I should be picky.

Anyone else experience this problem?

I'll let you know when I set mine up next week. I bought display as well, and suspect there may be wireless issues (I have no intention to use the wireless, so no worries for me, but will likely ask LG to replace it under warranty if it has issues). The picture was beautiful after I adjusted the settings and ran a BD through HDMI... can't wait to check it out at home.

Anyone measured the power draw of the 55LHX? My brother is considering buying one as well and is weighing power draw into his decision. listed as TBD in the online manual.

So, I picked up the new tv with little to no hassle. I mounted it immediately when I got home, and everything is running normally. The new one is ridiculously quiet. I guess the old one was just pooping out. Next up - new housing unit for the electronics. I really like the freedom I have with the wireless, in that I'm able to arrange my furniture any way I like without having to put everything directly under or next to the tv

I'm not a settings expert or extremely picky, but I was able to play Tom Clancy Rainbow Six on the LXH and I can see the whites of the eyes of the enemy from across the casino floor. I'm sold! I love this tv and just hope that the wireless media box pulls it's weight.

I don't know anything about the draw and I couldn't find anything with a quick search. I know it's energy star qualified, but I don't know if that's a big deal or not.

FYI for anyone else wondering... google search on the 55LH95 (same set, different model #) turned up this (although page original on the energystar.gov site is no longer available):

"Model Name / Model Number: 55LH95 / 55LH95-UA. Technology: Digital or Analog. Viewable Diagonal Screen Size: 54.6 Inches. On Mode Power: 179 W ..."

So, for those keeping track, that's a little more than half the allowable for a 55" under EnergyStar 3.0 standard.

So it's been 2 weeks and the t.v. is working great. I finally got everything set up the way I like and the wireless box is on the bottom shelf of an open base and I don't have any problem with the signal. I still haven't watched a bluray on it to check the quality, but I'm hoping to before the weeks out.

So, overall....great TV. I love it!

initial impressions and observations...

beautiful picture... ChadB's settings for the LH90 look excellent (will eventually calibrate).

no fan noise whatsoever.
wireless works great as long as the line of sight is unobstructed... step in between the box and TV and the signal drops, reconnects, and occasionally drops until you get out of the way (leads me to believe the bounce does not work so well).

to my pleasant surprise, the hdmi port labeled 'service' on the media box works as a standard hdmi output and disables the wireless when connected to a display.

i did notice the wavy issue on the lower half of the screen, but only when there were fast moving objects. I turned off the 240Hz motion processing (from low to off) and have not seen it since.

looks like a keeper for now

Yes... I am running my cable box and bluray through HDMI1 and HDMI2 respectively, and the service out HDMI from the media box is connected to the HDMI5 on the TV. Better yet, its operation is indistinguishable from using the wireless connection, including all menus available from the media box, and selecting the source with the TV or remote input selector (i.e. I do not select HDMI5, but rather HDMI1/cable or HDMI2/bluray, and it does the work behind the scenes). I'm certain it is the wired however, as there are no signal issues and when connected via the service HDMI output, the wireless LED on the media box turns off, and when the TV powers up, it says 'connecting HDMI5' on the screen for a second. It is all really seamless and a pleasant surprise

Do you notice a speed increase in the start-up/communication between the TV and media box, as if direct wired into HDMI5 without a media box?

I find this to be slightly annoying.

Honestly, I'm not really sure, have not played with wireless since I hardwired... hardwired, it takes about 3 seconds to make the initial connection or to change the source... is that what you're asking about?

Yes, it takes about 10-15 seconds to "connect TV to media box".

LH95 is the proper name

LHX is the name that is used in the USA but then the name changed again to LH95

If you have LH95 then you have the latest shipments
LHX is the earlier shipments. I remember seeing article about LHX to LH95, and saying something about not calling me LHX but LH95

in Korea it is called LH95 as well.

The TV is capable of doing both 50Hz and 60Hz. it is all depending on the source. If source is 50Hz then it will do 50Hz if source is 60Hz then it will do 60hz if source is 24Hz then it will do 24hz.

Try display some infos on the content you are viewing on your PS3 or blu ray player or xbox360 then you will know the source Hz.

If video is 50Hz then it iwll do 50Hz if video is 60Hz then it will be 60hz.
There is no such thing as it can or not do 50Hz or 60Hz

I have connected mine wired as dougri has, and I like it much more than wirless. All of the picture controls are retained, and the start-up time is much faster - thanks dougri!

you're welcome! I thought it was odd that the website listed 1 HDMI output, and there was a single port labeled service on the media box. Anyway, perfectly happy with it so far.

Thanks for the info on the "service" port. I'm using the wireless function with no problem so far but it's nice to know that there is an alternative. I've had mine for about two weeks. It came by way of a superb closeout from Magnolia/Best Buy.

It was assembled in December in Mexico and is identified by two serial numbered stickers on the back - one as a 55LHX and the other as a 55LH95. So far it has been a real delight after its predecessor, a 20 year old Mitsubishi CRT, became intermittent.

I don't understand why they didn't market these better. The picture quality as displayed in the Magnolia Room was rather poor. Yet in our setting it is excellent!

honestly, if I would not have read peoples' experiences here and on other 'enthusiast' forums, I would not have even paused as I passed it in Magnolia... it looked that bad. LG did a VERY poor job of both marketing them and 'educating' their sales channels on how to set it up. Every magnolia I saw one in had it running wirelessly behind a closed cabinet door (against recommendation), and had the demo mode running with all the motion cr@p on high (which is by far the weakest aspect of this set). Its like they designed the demo mode for walmart, and never actually tested the 240hz stuff. I'm EXTREMELY happy with mine after three weeks of use, and when I have all the extra processing turned off, I notice no ill effects until I am within 5 ft.

I am still very happy with mine after 6 months.

I notice some cloudy imaging in background of bright scenes, anyone notice this?

Is it posible to reduce or eliminate this with a setting?

Not sure, but I believe it is related to the local dimming function.

only notice it when very dark against very bright, and even then, I only see it when viewing off-axis (>40 degrees or so). Such is the nature of the beast (local-dimming that is... the lhx is actually one of the best out there in this regard, if not the best).

Just purchased a New, in the Box 55LHX to arrive sometime next week. Check with CP, he says there's a few left. Can any one confirm that the shipping box is just as big for the 55LHX as the 55LH90? I would have thought with this LG being thinner, so would the shipping box?

Couldn't find a Review on CNET, (Except an Overview) nor these settings - are these from the 55LH90?
