Danley DTS-10 "Super Spud" DIY kit - Page 321

I love my DTS-10, but to design and build one is way over my head. A sealed box? I could build one of those in my sleep.

I am in the same boat. But, it is difficult to even build one with the same capability for much less.
It is still one of the best bargains in bass (if you have the space).
Every time I consider building something else, I know i will need more money in either amplification or drivers or both.

I assume people are still buying these beasts!
No questions, no comments, where is everyone?

Because the ones who wanted one have them and are more than likely using them instead of posting. The kit sales were limited, though I think it's still making a last run if anyone was left out.

I hear ya. I take many months off at time from the forums, especially during the summer months.

Forums give me something to kill time in the ratholes I work in. When home yes I sort of fall off the grid and use the internet for convenience only.
My dad has heard our dts-10 and wants something similar but has very limited space. So looking IB in his case instead of the smaller sealed subs I bought him (won't work in wall unless we get very creative). Now to convince him to tap into his ceiling in his new house lol. He built the place so shouldn't be too much persuasion but never know.

Doing more with less. A properly eq'd dts-10 i'd say it will hold it's own against some large sealed arrays with twice or more wattage and 4x driver surface area. Simplistic way I think about it is at least 4 high end 18" drivers. It gets silly fast multiplying that out along with wall power requirements/usage. IB on the other hand has advantage of no box footprint which I like as an alternate.

Another demo and he might be willing to add and addition on for woofage! Good bass is intoxicating!

Exactly, after having experience with horns and powerful sealed setups. It is tough to add more sealed subs when it takes so little power for a horn. I might have to build me a GJALLARHORN!

I'm loving my two DTS 10's in my room. Could not ask for better subs. More than I will ever need for bass. Best HT money I ever spent!

I wish I had room for another. I would get one in a heartbeat. In fact, after moving, I really don't have room for the one I have!eek.gif

Screw that. If I was only able to put surround sound in a bathroom my DTS would go there.

I hear ya. My problem now is that my home theater is in the part of my house that is a log cabin built in 1830 and there is nowhere to hide the DTS. It is big and ugly in there and does not come close to matching the decor.
I am considering unloading mine and building something less obtrusive, room wise. OMG, I can't believe I just said that about the most beloved piece of audio gear I have ever owned.eek.gif

Here is mine on the left side of the room towards the back of the pic. It stands out pretty badly too but I don't care. Other people don't care either once they hear it.

You can't get creative? Maybe trim it out with decorative molding and paint to match the room? Hide behind a couch? Build custom bookcases that the DTS slides into and disappears? Put it behind drapes? Make an oversized coffee table out of it? Are you using a projector? You could put it behind an AT screen. 16" is pretty easy to hide with some thought.

Mine are in the front of my theater behind the AT screen. But I've been recently thinking of experimenting with them in the back of the room again. This puts them back on the riser and would give me the tactile response better. Last time I had them in the rear it was pre-EQ, and I bet it would be a different story now. I'm thinking of pulling the cabinets out from the rear wall, sliding the DTS in place and then putting the cabinets back in front of the DTS...

Here is mine in the corner. You are right about the effects of a good demo!wink.gif
I put the acrylic cover on it due to people always asking what the hell it is!

Most of the time to keep the wife sane I leave the sub off during normal TV watching. Other times I know which ones potentially fall off so I take those off. I am planning on buying these things called quake clips for them. The hanging wire in the back is actually clipped into these things that mount on the wall. They sell them at home depot. I am just too lazy and haven't got around to getting them.

Here's a before pic of a pair 32ft away from seating distance. That's right, coupled and cornered; enough output to make women and children run screaming holding their eardrums eek.gifcool.gif pay no atten to that pale hairy leg guy (you'd think all this time in the desert he'd have some sun)

And here they are dressed up in. . . a film tuxedo ?

and standing next to the left rear (auralex mega lenrd bass trap)

Nice..Really cool way to integrate them into the decor!cool.gif

Paint it the color of the wall if you can to help it blend in.

Ya, I thought about staining it. But, it is tough to paint it to look like timber and chinking.

Here is some iphone pics of my 2. I really do love them, and have been thinking of adding a 3rd if they are still available. Anyone know?

Damn nice setup there!

The rack is a Omni Mount RE42. I was not able to use the shelves that came with it and had to order all new shelves from Middle Atlantic which drove the cost up. Here are a few more pics with the door open:

That’s no joke! When I turn everything on I can feel the money being sucked out of my wallet eek.gif… I will tell you this, when people come over to my house for the first time and see and hear it, they leave speechless…

I would guess so! That is a lot of current being sucked down!

Same here! It never gets old doing demos!
