Just recieved my EMP EF30C's but......

my wife is completely balking at their size on her new entertainment center. I bought them knowing they would be big, but even I was surprised at how much room they take up. I now would like to find something comparable (in price and sound) to the EF30C's only smaller in dimensions. I started out looking for a 3.1 system, but ended up with these because of the price. I have a Denon 1610 and a TSC ASW-10 sub on the way as well. The setup will mainly be used for HT with the occasional music and gaming. Any help would be appreciated.

5 quality speakers for $200 will be difficult to beat. What size speaker would you (actually your wife) prefer?

Checkout the TSC P series bookshelf speakers. Get two pair of the P5's.
http://www.thespeakercompany.com/P5-...ir-P42C37.aspx

And one RC-1 center
http://www.thespeakercompany.com/RC1...er-P38C37.aspx

Total will be $190 and then you get 20% off! That knocks the total down to $152.

If the other half lets you, you could get the slightly larger P6 bookshelf in front and one pair of P5 for the surrounds. It'll only cost you $16 more. Total for 1pr P6, 1 pr P5 and once RC1 will be $168 shipped with the discount.

afro,

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at those P5's and those are more in line with the size I believe she can live with. How would the P5's and RC-1 compare to the Energy Take 5's? Those are the only other speakers in this price range I have read anything on.

Don't know, haven't heard the TSC speakers in person. But they're quite a bit bigger than the Takes and will fill up a large room better plus have lower bass by quite a bit. How big is the room you're using.

Don't mean to hijack but since the OP has the EF30C and he's considering something from The Speaker Company, which of their speakers will roughly compare to EF30C as far as sound is concerned as opposed to price?

Size is not an issue for me. Nor the WAF . I'm after getting the most bang for my buck. TSC is high in my list but that EF30C deal looks nice.

The EFC30 deal is SOLD OUT! Done, finished, over! It was a closeout to unload remaining stock and apparently it worked well.

I doubt if anyone has put the EF30 and TSC speakers in the same room and compared them. The OP has the opportunity to do that and give us his reviews if he decides to buy some TSC speakers.

And if the TSC passes the wife test, maybe he can sell you his EF30C's?

I would't put the little Takes in a room that size. They wont be able to fill it with sound very well. You'd probably be disappointed.

Going to go ahead with the P5's and RC-1 center. I believe these are about the maximum size wifey will allow to be on here new HT center. I'm still waiting on the Denon 1610 to come in from 6ave, I believe it's currently backordered and the sub will be here tomorrow. I was only going to use the EF30's in a 3.1 setup so I will prob start with that with the P5's. I will do a comparison of the two speakers if I still have the EF30's, but as of right now they are up for sale, $200 and you pay shipping.

All you would need is a good speaker stand. Even i was worried about the same big size. But once i placed them in SANUS BF-24B bookshelf speaker stand, they look stunning. I got a pair for 30 bucks during a recent sale. I can't be happier with my choice

Thanks for the reply. I've been looking at those exact same stands. Do you have yours mounted horizontally or vertically? Because of space concerns I would need to mount them vertically, but I wasn't sure how sturdy that would be.

I mounted them vertically. They almost look like tower speakers. The black color blends really well.
The speaker weighs 17 pounds. It wont tip off easily unless you push the stand completely down. It doesn't tilt or wobble.

Here ya go (I hope). I owned both TSC and still own the EMPs. Wrote up an extensive review and here's a link.

If that doesn't work the thread title is "EMP vs TSC hands on". A search will find it.

Enjoy
