You just can't compete with a well set up IB sub system.....PERIOD!

Time for another update. After painting the inner bulkhead black I realised that it would still reflect a fair bit of light, especially directly above the screen. All the walls were going to be covered with black wallpaper also. After using Fedileo velvet for the ceiling everything else looked grey by comparison. So iv'e now decided to cover the bulkheads and walls in Fedileo velvet.
After about almost 3 hours just trying to attach one strip across the front bulkhead I wished I had never changed my mind. Its was a total NIGHTMARE putting it up. It's like putting contact on a giant textbook....upside down. lol It has a self adhesive backing that is so sticky that once it touches any surface its stuck for good. If you try and pull it off, the velvet just falls apart. The final result does look very nice though. I guess I'll keep at it. Gotta love a bat cave

Here are a couple of pics showing the start and finished job. The photos are pretty bad. It's hard to get a good pic of the velvet.
Anyone want to buy 10 rolls of black wallpaper?

The next task was the double doors. They were both attached a few weeks ago but they shifted between now and then. The door frame couldn't handle the weight of both doors and started to bow. We had to take them both off and reinforce the frame and plane a few bits off both doors.

Pics below.

Thanks for the kind words Art. For about 10 years i was happy with a projector and surround sound system in a standard room. Believe it or not your cinemas directly inspired me to build my current room.

I saw a photo on google a couple of years ago of a very similar seat. I took the pic to my manufacturer and after about 4 or 5 prototypes they got them close to perfect. I was very picky. Solid timber frames, Fully spring loaded cushions and the highest grade velvet i could find. I actually flew overseas to hand pick the fabric and motorised mech my self.

Very familiar indeed! Simon is a HT mate of mine. I got his burgundy version made at the same time as mine.

Nice, I've been tracking Simon's build for some time, it's a beautiful piece of work, and almost at the finish line! Oh yeah, I forgot he's on avs now too, saw him post here back a bit.

Your build is looking great, keep those pics coming!

Hey Brad,

Fancy seeing you here

Yeah a huge thanks again to Jason for hooking me up with the recliners. Everyone is blown away by them. My wifes friend came over today and had a quick look in the room and she couldn't get over how great they were

Cheers,
Simon

Time for another update.

The first pic is the new cornice I just picked up. Another bit of Art Deco for the room. It will be painted a low sheen black.

After the massive headache I had putting the velvet up on the bulkhead I decided to take Richards advice. I went out and bought about 30m of coreflute. This stuff made life SO much easier! The second pic is the finished board with the cutout for the columns.

Where the coreflute board was screwed and glued to the base of the bulkhead there was a visable seem where the bottom joined the lip at the front. I couldn't think of a good way to hide the join. So why not make it a feature. I picked up handful of gold 3m aluminum extrusions. This covers the seem an looks pretty good too. The gold trim will match the trim on the seats perfectly.

I decided not to cover the walls with velvet as I wouldn't have enough for the job. I also didn't want to use the plain wallpaper i bought about a year ago either. I was at Bunnings this morning picking up some paint and as i was leaving i noticed a Spotlight store across the road. I ended up buying this black fabric that will really suit the room.

It was pretty easy to install. 100's of staples and an electric staple gun I will put up the beading to hide the seems in the next few days. I think it looks pretty good though. There will be acoustic panels covering most of the fabric but what you can see should look the part.

nightbreed,

Very stylish - I am really liking this theme!

Cant wait to see this one finished!

Very nice Jason, I like the design elements you're putting into this! That aluminum extrusion seems to have worked out nicely, and the crown looks cool, haven't seen a design like that before.

Thanks guys. It's taken MUCH longer than expected but it's all coming along nicely. I hope to have it finished within about 2 to 3 months.

It's been along time since the last update. I've had so much other things happening it's been almost impossible to get things done.
I did get all the fabric up on the walls and also managed to get the Art deco cornice up and painted. The still need a bit of touching
up but in person look alot nicer than in the pics. It's pretty hard taking photos of 3 or 4 different shades of black...in a black room
with NO natural light.

Once again i have had trouble finding exactly what i want for my room. So, once again i had to resort to getting a couple of things custom made. Well, one thing, just in 2 colours.
I got this idea from the now crappy looking Jam Factory when it was still a fantastic looking cinema. These are my new door pulls. I think i'll stick with the gold. They are cast in solid aluminum. They weigh a fair bit considering.

Thanks Greg! It's not actually wallpaper. It's fabric i have stappled to the wall. I look forward to seeing your cinema come together.
