My Movies 3 released.

Hi all,

My Movies 3 have now been released on our website http://www.mymovies.dk for Windows Vista and Windows 7 Media Center.

Some screenshots are available here: http://www.mymovies.dk/products/wind...ia-center.aspx.

I am sure that there will be reviews posted on various sites that will be able to give you an independed walk through of the program.

Basic functionality is free, while some features quires an amount of points on your account.

Feel free to most any questions you have regarding My Movies 3, and I will try to answer best possible.

Below is a list of questions and answers that may help new users.

1. Are PowerDVD/TMT considered external players. Launching BD iso used to be free in MM2. I'm wondering if this is still true. Blu-ray and HD DVD players are not considered external players, and can be used freely without any point requirement.

2. I really can't use it until it supports TV shows. You can use the current functionality to index TV shows also, using Series/Box set feature, multi-disc feature and personal categories, but it requires manual work creating the meta-data if the TV show is not released on a DVD in our database. Automatic indexing of TV shows with meta-data is planned for a future release.

3. How much will it cost me to be able to use an external player? External players (expect HD DVD and Blu-ray) requires 1250 points. You can create a free 21-day trial if you would like to contribute data to get the points, but if 1250 points should be purchased, it equals $50 ($1 per 25 points).

Best regards,

Brian Binnerup

I really like the look of MM3 and I think it's a huge step-up from MM2 but I really can't use it until it supports TV shows.

However, I hope you keep up the good work and add this feature someday!

Hi Brian,

Congrats! MM3 looks really good. The website update looks good, too.

Question:

Are PowerDVD/TMT considered external players. Launching BD iso used to be free in MM2. I'm wondering if this is still true.

Looks good.

Was trying to get a list of what points are needed for what functionality and got this error:
No node found (http://www.mymovies.dk/default.aspx?...ure-table.aspx, '/root/node [@urlName = "documentation"]/node [@urlName = "feature-table"]')

How much will it cost me to be able to use an external player?

Thanks.

You can't exactly say it does not support TV shows - it just does not automatically add meta-data for TV shows except for those released on DVD.

You can:

- Create titles with multiple discs where each disc contains an episode.
- Create a title containing other titles in a Series/Box set, where the main title can be the TV show, and the sub title can be the seasons.
- Create personal categories for "TV Shows", and another for "Movies", or any other you should like, and configure to start up on a category list.

You can without problems maintain TV shows, but automatic indexing of TV shows is something you will see in a future update.

Regards,

Brian

PowerDVD and TotalMedia Theatre is considered internal players for BD playback in this situation.

There is no point requirement for Blu-ray and HD DVD players.

That looks like a broken link on the new website - can you let me know what link you clicked, and I will get it fixed right away.

The external player functionality (except HD DVD and Blu-ray players) is 1250 points, which, if purchased equals $50. You can also create a 21-day free trial and contribute data to receive the points.

Certainly. From the home page i clicked the 'more' link under 'Get all our software for free' and then the 2nd 'this page' link.
The first 'this page' link works, which has the info i was after anyway. D'OH!

Cheers.

Looks good. I plan on trying out MM3 on my HTPC after I install Win 7 this weekend.

Can My Music Disc Copier and My Movies Disc Copier be used without My Movies for Windows Home Server?

These specific two products are features of the Windows Home Server software package.

The Windows Media Center software has it's own copy functionality for movies, and so does the Collection Management software.

The music disc copying is only available on Windows Home Server.

Ahhh, OK. I wasn't aware of that. That's for clearing it up!

Can I use Meta Browser (which is designed for Media Browser) to retrieve the metadata for both movies and TV shows?

I'll give MM3 a try later today. I really do prefer your look and style and "built-in" feel.

Thanks again very much for your help!

No, you must use MM/CM for retrieving meta data. Using any other program will cause the mymovies.xml file to be re indexed and overwritten by MM. In previous versions of MM the movie with the 3rd party xml would just be ignored, I encountered this when I was reviewing MM3 - http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2009...-at-whats-new/)

Unfortunately not - My Movies does not support meta-data from outside it's own control.

In regard to number 3, what would be considered an external player if PowerDVD and TMT are not.

Just a little confused but interested none the less.

Okay I'll stick with AnyDVD.

One more question can I play my FLAC music collection within My Movies? And will My Movies Collection Management pickup meta-data for my music collection.

PowerDVD 9 and TotalMedia Theatre 3 have what is described as "integrated" players that are add-ons to Media Center more than an actual external player.

Other external players would be TheaterTek, Media Player Classic, VLC, ect. ect.

My Movies is for movies only, not for music. We overall believe that Media Center's built-in music library is functioning well if you maintain your ID3 tags.

If you google, there are topics on getting Flac to play in Media Center. Even if we created a plug-in for music, we would not get to play something that Media Center itself does not, as we lie on top of the SDK.

I was hoping that was still the case. thanks for clearing that up!

I can't wait to try out mm3 soon!

I think lack of full support for TV episodes ripped as individual .mkv files is keeping a lot of us from embracing MM3.

Most of us (I think) have the following directory structure for TV shows:

C:\\TV Shows\\Lost\\folder.jpg (this is the "DVD Case" for the show itself)
C:\\TV Shows\\Lost\\backdrop.jpg (this is the backdrop for the show itself)
C:\\TV Shows\\Lost\\Season 1\\folder.jpg (this is the "DVD Case" for the particular season)
C:\\TV Shows\\Lost\\Season 1\\backdrop.jpg (this is the backdrop for the particular season)
C:\\TV Shows\\Lost\\Season 1\\E1.mkv (this is the individual episode within the season)
C:\\TV Shows\\Lost\\Season 1\\metadata\\E1.jpg (this is the thumbnail for the individual episode)
C:\\TV Shows\\Lost\\Season 1\\metadata\\E1.xml (this is the synopsis for the individual episode)

The challenges with MM3 right now are:

1. There is no way to pick a "DVD Case" for the show itself unless you want to just pick one of the covers from one of the season boxed sets.

It would be great if a feature could be added to CM that would allow the user to pick an image for this and contribute to the web service. Ditto for the backdrop.

2. There is no way to associate thumbnails with individual .mkv episodes. Ditto for synopsis.

Adding this functionality to the CM and allow contribution to the web service should resolve this.

Right now, since MM3 does not support outside meta-data, it prevents us from interacting with TV shows through MM3 without making significant compromises. And on top of that, it would take a significant amount of work to manually add all the episodes of all the seasons of all the shows using the method you outline at the top of this reply.

There is no doubt that the current support for these is not perfect, mainly because this is not what it was created for.

This is why I mention that there will be created full support in a future release.

Can I just import the XML files I already have into MyMovies? I would prefer not to build them again. This is vital for TV shows where I have metadata for each individual episode.

Since currently MM3 is not set up ideally for individual TV episodes I would exclude them from the MM folder monitoring (that is what I did, I only included my movies folders). This will keep any metadata you have for your tv episodes untouched.

Thanks, right now I use MediaBrowser and I am happy with it, but I still want to try this out, but I don't want to negatively impact MB to do so
