Need advice on amplification for B&W 805N

hey guys, i recently bought some B&W 685's which has been driven by my Decco very easily IMO

however, i found a great deal for a pair of 805N's so i'm planning on upgrading

i can guess that the 805N's need more power to reach their full potential, as opposed to the 685's

right now I'm using a 50WPC Decco as a DAC/preamp/amp

I'd like to keep the Decco as a DAC/preamp and add a power amp for my 805N

right now, i'm thinking the emotiva UPA-2 because it's only $325 shipped

do you guys think 125WPC from the UPA-2 will be sufficient for my 805N's? or is there something else you guys would recommend?

i was thinking about a rotel as an alternative

any advice would be appreciated.. the room is only about 12x12x8, if that helps

The 805's are great speakers, 50 watts is plenty to light them up. I think with these speakers I would shop around a little more and see what you could find on the used market for amplification. B&W speakers are very good at showing how good or not good your electronics are, if possible visit some dealers near you that might let you take home an amp for the night to evaluate, this will give you a good idea how different amps can sound with your speakers. Emotiva is good but it sounds like you might be buying upa-2 unseen and unheard. Rotel is very good as well, I have heard some very good sounding set ups consisting of Rotel and b&w. I recently heard a demo consisting of 805's with a new NAD intergrated amp, not sure of the model but it was one of the latest bee series and it listed for around $600 and the combo was incredible. I don't think I would worry so much about the power rating as I would the design and sound of the the amp. Great find on the speakers, you will not be sorry you bought them. Good luck.

I have run my N805 with high power SS / mid power SS and tubes. The best sound that I have achieved is through a Cary SLI-80 Signature. Warm, wonderful sound. From the first few notes I thought, "this is what they are supposed to sound like!" The speakers are very accurate and so with SS can be a little punishing with solid state in my experience via Arcam, Bryston, Exposure and Outlaw. The Cary has been my best bet.
