Hey all,
Just curious why didn't Black Hawk Down receive a reference status? This movie sounds amazing! The RPGS whizzing by my head was definitely a WTF moment! Amazing sounding movie in every aspect.

I'd probably agree with you if I'd seen it. It has five votes so far: two Reference, three Tier 0. I thought I read about a German/Scandinavian release with a 7.1 (maybe 6.1?) DTS-HD MA track.

Ok,
Then consider my vote for reference!

I can't believe that the Fifth Element is not listed. Its pretty damn close to reference. But I'd go with a tier 0.

Hello all just watched Priest. What can I say the movie was dumb as dirt with some pretty corny acting. Here is the good news the audio was pretty amazing! the musical soundtrack was one of the most thunderous scores I have ever heard on my home theater. The LFE was huge! The surround effects were constantly pumping out all the speakers. The audio has a wide spacial feel throughout the entire movie. I am curious if any body here will give it a higher rating? if you can manage to sit through this dumb good vs evil movie
Check it out.

Watched it last night. I will go tier 0 as well. Definitely not reference, but a pretty good tier 0 track IMO.

Priest is at the top of my rental queue. I'm waiting on this one. I enjoy post apocalyptic films. Hoping this might be a guilty pleasure. Glad to hear the AQ is top notch.

It was listed as reference at one time and the old thread. I was particulary ticked to see it removed. Don't know if my vote was counted so here goes again. There was some discussion in the old thread on what particular scenes to compare the difference of the lossy audio and the uncompressed. And boy could you tell.

Elephant White (TrueHD 5.1) Tier 2

Limitless (DTS-HD MA 5.1) Tier 2

When the action cranked up, Elephant White really shined. Mid-bass gunfire was effective. Surrounds heavily incorporated. However, it really had some bad ADR work applied to the film. Not only was it very obvious, it sometimes didn't match up with the mouth movements. So this distraction knocked it down a tier for me.

Limitless was fairly benign but appropriately fit the on-screen material.

Priest DTS Master Tier 0

Pretty fun audio. Good surrounds, score and some LFE throughout. About what you would expect for this budget of movie.

I was kinda surprised when I looked at the bitrate meter and saw it in the 2's as opposed to the 3's for the audio. I don't know definitively but that seems more like a 20bit than 24bit recording.

Still the audio was impressive.

Dave... it's almost impossible to tell the difference between the two.

The move from 16 > 20... fairly audible difference.

From 20 > 24... not so much...

And remember you can't take the bitrate for anything other than a number.. it's one of the worst placebo's you can have for audio.

Hanna (2011), all I can say is WOW! Why can't all movies sound this good? Reference, hands down.
Please let me know how you got Hanna early. I desperately want to see it.

I used to have a buddy that was able to get any movie he wanted about a month early because he worked for a large electronics store. I guess he knew all the right people.

I agree. Finally watched Priest and enjoyed it. I like post apocalyptic vampire/zombie movies. The AQ on this was kick assingly good.

???

Priest is out and quite a few of us have watched it. Curious to see Hanna though. Confused about what you were trying to imply with your post though.

Edit: Nevermind......just realized you were talking about Transf 3. BIG expectations for the audio/3d on that one!

Mars needs Moms DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 Tier 0

This is a very satisfying track. Best audio in a kids movie this year - by far. The LFE when the ship takes off from earth is very fun. My chairs were shaking big time and there were a few pulses where my hair would quiver. This is usually very low stuff like when the big dragon came out of the cave in HTTYD. A handful of these in the movie with the ship. Surrounds had a lot of ambience and dialogue was very clear. The score was very fun and mixed well through the fronts and surrounds. The ending music was fantastic with the score coming from the fronts and just the drum effects blasting from the surrounds. Really dynamic, fun effect! I want to give this reference but just not enough activity to quite make it but many MEMORABLE moments in the audio. Too bad this was done by Zemekis and his stupid, creepy visuals. Pixar could have taken this movie, and with a few tweaks, it would have done $200 million plus box office. Instead it did $20mil but my family still enjoyed it quite a bit...

This weekend I had the opportunity to watch an epic 2 disk blu-ray movie Director John Woo's "Red Cliff " (Mandarin: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 w/ English subtitles). If you don't mind the subtitles, this movie looks and sounds great. It's a long one though--an "all Sunday afternooner"

Hello All,
I just read the review for United 93 on the Hi Def digest web page. Looks very promising! It is being released next week.

5 Stars.
I rarely give out 5 star ratings in my reviews, and to be truthful, I'm a little borderline here about the 5.1 English DTS-HD MA track here on 'United 93.' I suppose if we offered a 4.75, I would have opted for that. Caveats aside, 'United 93' features an amazing soundtrack.

This forum is based on "Reference > Tier0 > Tier1 > .... " system. If you want your vote count, you probably need to translate your star system to this and do the proper formatting.

A little slow around here lately due to the lack of new offerings. Just watching the last Narnia movie with the family and was reminded of the great overall track (I believe I voted it as reference) and superb sounding LFE. Never measured it, but it sounds damn good in the low frequency info.

Hello I understand this. I was just giving everybody a heads up about the review they gave it on the HIDef digest web site. I haven't seen it yet.

Enjoyed this track. Saw it months ago and what I remember was some nice bass and really aggressive, inventive surround sequences. I own the first two but have not pulled the trigger on this due to questionable replay for my six year old. I thought about doing it just for the Surround demo material. I still need to buy Percy Jackson for it's amazing LFE but it's gonna take a Black Friday $7.99 deal as there is zero replay in this flic.

Agreed. The last Narnia movie has the best overall balance to my ears. I still love the last part of the previous Narnia film as well which is just great demo material.

The Percy Jackson audio is killer. I would not mind picking that up when I can find it super cheap.

If anyone is looking for a LFE fix, Super Hybrid should do the trick! This movie is loaded with it and is some fun audio in general. Dont shoot me though if you dont like the movie! Slightly front heavy at times, but at other times the surround use is fantastic. Overall it makes it into tier 0 in my book. Fun audio!

Super Hybrid (TrueHD) tier 0

HANNA (DTS-HD) Reference

Lots of LFE, lots of surround, Lots of music background.. all mixed together in a good way.
Movie is not as engaging as I would like, but nonetheless, audio is reference.
