And once everyone is seeing roughly the same thing, they can have all kinds of in depth discussions about these movies. As for audio, since everyone's rooms, gear, and setups are different, we aren't all hearing the same things while we watch the same blu rays.

I'm not sure if it's even possible to come up with some kind of audio standard? The closest thing would be trying to get everyone's freq response as flat as possible but that is an incredibly difficult task for most people. It's a shame too as I enjoy blu ray audio far more than the picture and would like to talk about it more.
It's already been done, they call it THX. THX came up with a uniform set of audio standards for a variety of different home environments. I think people pay less and less attention to it, these days.

THX is not a standard for production. It is a set of guidelines for equipment performance.

The recommended professional techniques have also been long out of favor... The crossover performance is well exceeded by current equipment, although the room setup guidelines still have a lot of merit.

We have a standard room tuning as well as a SPL standard for cinema production emviroents. If one wants to follow those standards it is a good place to start.
