The WB UK DVD was the theatrical cut. Hopefully the Blu-Ray is the same.

Amazon is showing 11-10-09 for Logan's Run. I hope this is right as I have it on pre-order.

Remember, this is the import list. They should be coming sooner for us.

Often true. Logans Run has 12/9/09 release date on blu-ray in Japan and a 11/9/09 release date in the US.

I am really looking forward to "Mars Attacks" of all movies on blu-ray. It was one of the first dvd releases and has been pretty much ignored ever since. I really hope it gets not only a nice, upgraded transfer but some better extras this time around. Another one is "Excalibur." I never bought the dvd release as it was supposed to be a terrible transfer and I never heard much about the HD-DVD release quality either.

I thought the HD-DVD transfer was wonderful. The armor positively glistened! Audio was okay, but not up to the 5.1 laserdfisc.

I thought I was the only one!

I've watched Insomnia and Absolute Power on HBO HD. Insomnia looked alright, had some strange noise though. About what you would expect for a transfer from 2002.

Absolute Power, well I might as well watched a DVD. It had jaggies, lots of noise, and barely any detail. This absolutely needs a new transfer, and the one I watched was no doubt from a very early DVD telecine.

Ben Hur ! One of the greatest films ever made.

- The HDDVD of 'The Getaway' (1994) actually has a solid transfer -- 4/5 for PQ from High-Def Digest (!).

- I've been waiting forever for Polanski's 'Frantic' -- since my letterboxed Laserdisc (the dvd has a dreadful p&s transfer).

Are you sure Frantic was released in WS on laser? It was full-screen in most places. http://www.lddb.com/search.php?searc...tic&sort=title

Ben Hur should be fun. Purist will complain if its not 2.76, black bar haters will complain if it is 2.76 and if they include both on 1 disc they'll complain about the bitrate.
I read somewhere that 2.76 was wrong and the ratio was closer to 2.55

I'm very happy to see that Forbidden Planet finally has some kind of a BluRay release date, but I'm equally disappointed that I'm probably going to have to wait a year for it.

2001 - A Space Odyssey - Special Edition - Interesting. Wonder what WB has up its sleeves for this one; the presentation on the prior BluRay was quite good so I would expect some more behind the scenes stuff.
Insomnia makes sense as a tie in to Nolan's Inception..can't wait for both!

Also no Lethal Weapon 1+2 re-releases or no 3+4

Dead Calm is already out in North America.

Did anyone ever do a comparison of 2001 on HDDVD to the BD ?

May be wrong but seem to remember reading somewhere that they were both from the same master and had the same encode/bit rate.

Released (region free) over a year ago in the Netherlands. It was definitely more detailed than any DVD version but when in motion it's full of little black-and-white speckles. It'll be interesting to see if this is a new, cleaner transfer.

See posts 41 and 48 in the previous thread for screenshots.

Yeah, this one has me really excited. I just replaced my HD DVD with the Blu-ray (just 'coz). I will gladly buy this again (and again) as it is (along with Bladerunner) my very favourite movie.

I have 2001 on hddvd and 2010 on BD.2001 on hddvd is excellent pq.The Bd of 2010 is also very well done. Also my hdvdd of Forbidden Panet is just unreal. You can find these hddvds for under $5 now. Also Battel of the Bulge on hddvd is a must have.It is in its original cinemascope 2.70 or something like that. And the pic quality is amazing.
It will more than likely be a repackage as 2001 came out over here, maybe like the dvd sets with the lobby cards

Agreed re: FORBIDDEN PLANET. I also have 2001 on HD-DVD but (believe it or not) have yet to watch it! But, going by past experience, the PQ is either the same or slightly weaker on BD. (I'll guess that they are identical.)

Does George not own the rights to THX or is he actually releasing something?
