Yeah, that could work. The edge of the TV is about 3 feet from the back wall, so it would have to be a pretty deep shelf.

True, but it could work. One thing to consider, of course, is that if your receiver has Audyssey or any other remotely decent room EQ/correction built in, if the center channel is a foot or two farther back than the L/R main speakers, it really won't matter at all because it'll adjust the timing to account for the micro-seconds of difference. In that case, the shelf wouldn't have to be any deeper than needed to fit the center itself.

Just a small update.

I moved my old Polk RM50t mains to surround duty. They are actually not bad at all as surrounds. The tower itself seems to put the tweeter at the perfect height.

Not really a HT update but some of you other tech geeks may appreciate this.

I picked up this Nest Learning Thermostat. www.nest.com

Lowe's just started carrying them and it was a total impulse buy.

It's actually an awesome little gadget as it allows you to control your ac/heat remotely through either your iPhone or over the web. There are a ton of other features it has to help manage energy. Pretty neat...

Jealous. I've been lusting after a Nest since they were first announced. Funky AC system in my house mean pro install, which has delayed implementation, however. Someday, though!

That sucks. Install was super easy. Didn't even need a common wire or "c" wire which I was worried about because I don't have it...

I am looking for a little advice on amps for the 2.1 system. I am tired of the fans on the Crown XLS402. Also, I am curious if I am sacrificing sound quality with the current amp.

I am looking to spend less then $2K. I have narrowed it down to the Emotiva XPA-2 and the Parasound A21. I really want to get something quality and that will keep me satisfied for a while. I figure that it would make sense to get a quality amp that can grow with me as I get better and better speakers down the line.

I like the pricing on the XPA-2 but the Parasound A21 looks very appealing due to the fact that it looks like a very high quality piece that was designed extremely well. I just don't know if it's worth the price increase over the XPA2.

While I cant speak for the Emotiva XPA-2, I can tell you the Halo 21 is one of the two amps in the Halo line designed by John Curl, the other being the JC1 mono blocks. If your looking to drive the Boston E60's I say A21 and don't look back, I have the A21 driving my E100's to a satisfaction I can hardly put into words, simply world class sound!

Hey. Yeah, it would be for the E60s. Seems like a bit overkill to go with the A21 but like you said, it was designed by John Curl and supposedly has excellent sound quality.

Am I nuts for looking to spend that kind of money on an amp for essentially a PC system? biggrin.gif

Hmm! that's a good question indeed but good sound is good sound and this also improves your options for such a setup, check out Audio Advisor I just received there summer catalog with some great prices on Myryad amps!

Never heard of Myryad. Will give that a look.

Ok, here is the new plan for the music rig.

1. Sell Crown amp and purchase Parasound A23.

2. Move Boston E60s over to bedroom and purchase Paradigm S1s.

3. Move Velodyne SPL1200 over to bedroom and purchase the JL Audio E-112 when it becomes available. (This one is really just wishful thinking at this point)

Can anyone comment on the pairing of the Parasound with the Paradigm S1s?

Wow, ran through a few FLAC files of Clapton Unplugged and it sounds absolutely ridiculous! I am in love with the Boston E60 monitors all over again. This may have even cured my speaker upgrade itch for a little bit. lol

The difference from the Crown pro amp is so obvious it's not even funny. Even my friend noticed it right away. I know that a lot of people say that amps sound essentially the same but now I have heard it for myself and they DO NOT!

Good stuff!!!

I agree with Brolic, the Halo A23 is a great amp, I just replaced my pair of A23 for a NuForce 5 channel amp a couple of weeks ago when moving to my new appartement, but got to say I just lovd those amps.

I will be trying out some AudioQuest Rocket 33 bi-wire speaker cables for the desktop. I am not expecting much at all in terms of sound quality difference but they should look killer.
