Samsung LN52B750 Purchase Questions

Gents,

The LN52B750 is being discontinued and my local Best Buy has two left at $xxxx. (a smokin good price) It seems to me that this set is very close in performance to their backlit LED panels and superior to the edge lit and they are probably killing it for that reason.

Yes I have searched the forums but would like your thoughts on purchasing this panel or waiting until backlit LED prices drop into the reasonable range. (Specifically the UN55B8500)

Is Sammy going to replace the 750 with another LCD or are the existing LEDs the defacto replacement?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

The edge-lit LEDs are very heavily discounted right now--they just didn't sell at their original street prices. I look for the backlit LED sets to take the price point originally held by the edge-lit models and the edge lit sets to take the price point of the current 650/750 sets, resulting in the disappearance of at least the 750 series for good.

At the Sears store where I work the 6000 sets are already down to about the same price as the 750/650 series. I think they are in actuality fairly cheap to build or they couldn't be so heavily discounted. Most customers who haven't fallen for the super-skinny hype just haven't seen any reason to pay so much more for the edge-lit leds than for the 650/750 CCFL models, and prices are reflecting this.

Steve, thanks for your thoughts, that is exactly where I was as well.

I think the 8500 is spectacular but not a couple of thousand more than the 750.

I think I will pick up the 750 while I can at under eighteen hundred...

Nope, BB will not get any more... That is one of my questions, what is the replacement? Another LCD or are the existing LEDs the defacto replacement. A local Wisconsin chain "American TV" will not be getting anymore either. Both stores are pushing the various iterations of the LED panels.

Had it been $800 I would have bought all they had and gone into business for myself... The number was $1800...

Here in Canada (toronto), Futureshop has exclusive rights to sell the B750 series, and it's been weeks since they had any new stock for the B750.

All this time I thought it was because they were clearing the current inventory, to make way for newer units of the same series, but now the sudden 1000$ off promotion makes more sense if it's being discontinued and not restocked.

UPDATE: Just called Futureshop and was told that the reason they were sold out was because of the huge demand, and that they have 1000+ new units coming in the next week, and they don't expect it to be discontinued until Jan/Feb 2010.

"eighteen hundred" = 18 x 100 = 1,800

I was trying to follow forums rules to not quote prices... The following should be fairly obvious what it means

I think I will pick up the 750 while I can at under eighteen hundred..
