Need help w/ 5.1 speaker setup (Using Onkyo HT-RC160)

I am attempting to piece together a new home theater system and am having a lot of trouble deciding on components. I've read through countless threads, reviews, websites, and am terribly confused on what I should get speaker wise.

My budget for the 5.1 setup is in the $300-$500 range.

I will be using an Onkyo HT-RC160 receiver (haven't purchased yet, but decided on this one). I'd like to go with a 5.1 speaker setup because I really don't see a need for a 7.1. I'm not a huge audiophile nor do I do a ton of movie watching. This setup will be for casual TV watching and the occasional movie, but I would like it to sound good when I do use it . Room dimensions for my living room are 20ft x 15ft with a 10ft ceiling.


Some 5.1 setups I've considered:
Energy Take Classic 5.1
Polk Audio RM705
Polk Audio RM6750

I also saw a user "ickysmits" recommend this 5.1 setup (but this may be too expensive/overkill for me):
BIC America F12 12-Inch 450-Watt Front Firing Powered Subwoofer
2x Polk Audio Monitor 30
Polk Audio CS1 Center

id go with wit the polk monitor 30's and cs1

and instead of the bic (great entry sub btw) just get a dayton sub 100

its about 330 for that whole system


the rest of those 5.1 systems have satalite speakers with a bad sub so you wont get very good low midrange and bass and you will be able to overdrive them easier

I'm really leaning towards picking up the "Energy Take Classic 5 pack 5.0" and adding a good sub to it. I've read nothing but great reviews on the Energy speakers, and they are comfortably within my budget.

the take 5 set is a good set but depend on how big your room is it might not be as good for you

those drivers are only 3" and will have trouble filling a bigger room

that size of room might be to big for those speakers to fill properly without overdriving them


if you can see whaty the return details are if you can return them then buy the take 5 set try them out for a few days if you like it keep it if you dont return them, and get the polks

Leaning towards this setup from TSC:

Center: TSAT-2400 - $160
Front: 2x TSAT-2000SB - $160
Rear: 2x TSAT-1000SB - $106
Sub: T250 Subwoofer - $200
TOTAL: $626
