Advice wanted on 60"+ plasma for my particular room...pic included

Ok guys, I have been reading a ton of threads on the Kuro 600M, 141 and 151 as well as a few threads on the Panasonic 65V10 and I need some advice/help.

A pic of my family room is attached. There is not a ton of light control in the room currently (2 big windows with no window treatments YET) and the room is open past the TV into our sun room and behind the couch to the kitchen and opposite the fire place to the entry way of the house.

I currently have a 50" Panny 800UTHX set mounted to the wall where the previous owner had their TV (big holes in the wall, wireworld DVI cable running there from the AV closet, wireworld speaker wire run to holes around the TV) so I put mine right where they had theirs.

I would like to enlarge the TV in the family room and move the 50" Panny into the basement. I have about 65" between my wall mounted definitive speakers so all 3 TVs should fit...

I sit about 11-12 ft from the TV on the couch but the TV can also be seen from the kitchen table which is behind the couch.

I watch primarily Direct TV HD content, primetime stuff, HBO, NFL, College football. I do no gaming on my family room set as of now. We watch TV during the day when it is bright and at night with the lights dimmed.

I was initally considering the Samsung 55B8000 or the new 8500 since it would hold up pretty well in the bright room, but I haven't been unhappy with my plasma's brightness and I am not a huge fan of the 240hz processing so I decided to look back at a plasma which lead me back to AVS and the 3 Kuros.

I can still get the 600M shipped from Elite for a good price (about a G less than the 151). Magnolia has the 151 on sale for $4k until they are gone. I have not been able to find the 141 at many places and when I do, it is more than the Magnolia price on the 151 so I fiugred that takes it out of the running.

I went to the local Magnolia last night and looked at the 151 and then was shown the Panny 65V10 which was also pretty impressive (especially the size It was in a different room running totally different material and was the same price as the Kuro 151.

I tried to bargain with the sales person at Magnolia and was told, they do not discount Magnolia products...I called BS...he then said it was at the discretion of the sales person...I asked so WOULD you please discount either TV and he said "No." So I said thank you very much, ba-bye.

So, my question to you all is...in the current room, what would you do?

1. Go big with the Panny at MSRP?

2. Go for the great Glorious picture of the 151 from BB to get ease of shipping/return adn the 2 year warrenty?

3. Take a chance with the 600M from Elite or another vendor with the possibility fo getting a cracked screen...but saving some $$.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Since you are in Ohio it might be worth it to give Site Sponsor Cleveland Plasma a call.

It depends whether the 151's extra features have any value to you. I bought the 600M and then added a 5yr extended, but if the 151 was around $4k a couple of weeks ago I would have been strongly tempted.

It also depends really what you want and what you care to spend... I've seen the 65" Panasonic S1 for much less then the 600M.

We can't make up your mind for you.

Thanks guys. I called Cleveland Plasma and they gave me more things to think about...

Samsung 63B550 and the LG55H90 given my desire for a bigger tv and also the ligbht issue...they are also a much better price...

Any thoughs on those two? For the nearly $1500 difference betwwen the Kuro 151FD and the 63" Samsung B550, I don't think I can justify that especally in a sometimes poorly light controlled room.

Just something to think about:
Sammy's plasmas never seem to have anywhere near the black levels of the panny or pioneer displays. I don't care about how great the colors are, the picture has no depth without the blacks

Nice room there shoe. Nice colors, great view.

Wow you have an empty wall there. If i were i would go for panasonic projector. Top of the line panasonic projector is going to be sold at 2000$. You will have to move the speakers though. You can watch at an impressive 100 inches easily.

Alternatively, you need to move your sofas closer to the television. Maybe 5 feet. What about that other room with a futon on the floor? Maybe you can set that up as a secondary living room and uses it to watch TV.

Thanks, I''ll let the wife know about the color thing since I picked out the color (with her approval of course Its a great room, but it is just a bit weird in its layout. Since the previous owners had run al the wire already and made all the holes, we figured we would just go with it. That, and we didn't really want a TV over the fireplace.

Wow, didn't even think about a projector for the room, thanks for the idea, but I think it is going to be too bright in there from all of the other sources to have a good picture from a projector I can afford. 2 windows in the room, 4 in the kitchen, a boa load in the sun room and then the entry way are going to kill any hopes of significant daytime light control.

Thanks again all!

That's terrible advice. His room is way too bright for a projector. It would be unwatchable during the day.

I would tell the OP to check out the Samsung 63B590 which has a anti-glare screen. And he will need such a anti-glare screen especially with the kitchen lights over the back of the couch.

Magnolia is cracking down on discounting. We're getting chewed out from corporate and the vendors aren't happy either. Corporate made some changes and a guy from Mag AV is calling the shots not a guy from BBY. It's really good and should change a lot of how Magnolia HT is in the next year or so. Technically we aren't supposed to discount anything, but hey we gotta be competitive too you know. Management is all over us too about how we price everything.

Can't move the sofa closer because it would block the fireplace which is a no-no per wifey. Hence wanting the largest size possible.

The other room is a sun room which is L-shaped and is not set up at all for TV viewing (see attached pics just for more info) and that "futon on the floor" is our dogs bed! That cracked me up!

Interesting thought. I will try and take a look at it. My current Panny plasma doesn't have too much glare even with can lights almost right over it.

I guess this is why the guy totally shut me down in my attempt to negotiate. He basically said "NO DISCOUNT FOR YOU! YOU GO NOW!"

I have been thinking about it and it has come down to either the Samsung 63B550 or more likely the Pioneer 600M for ~$200 more.

Thanks guys!

UPDATE:
Thanks guys for the suggestions. I went ahead and ordered a Pioneer Kuro 600M from Bobby at Elite-Home earlier this week and it will be delivered later today.

Anything particular I should look for besides taking a flashlight to it and looking for screen cracks then powering it on and making sure no bad buzz?

I will try breaking it in after it gets mounted since I don't want to lean it against the wall with my 80 lbs dog running around

Will post after pictures when I get them.

Great choice, the 600M is an awesome set. Just do the flashlight thing, plug it in and watch for the "no input signal". when you power it on there are 2 power switches. Have to first hit the Main power switch, when facing from front on lower left backside of panel, that one stays on, then use remote to turn on or hit power switch on right bottom rear. Don't sign before inspecting and good luck.

Ditto. I really like the color of the hardwood floors and the paint choices. Good choice on the new plasma as well.

The 600M is a Great choice..How much did pay for it? I find that the price at amazon is only $4999 instead of $6500 now.

That price is still wayyyyyyy too high. (Who ever Big VALUE Inc. is, they are probably not an authorized dealer either.)
