Paradigm Sub 1 and Sub 2 - Page 7

I will be honest the deal I got I cannot talk about as it was so good. My dealer (Hi Fi Sales) in Phoenix, AZ is first class and I would not want to do anything to offend them when they have been as good to me as they have.

Hmmm interesting, lowest price I've seen here was around 5-10% below MSRP...

well a dealer in mississauga offered me with the pbk kit $3400 or $3600 plus tax in piano black. for the sub25 im sure they would give a sweet deal as well on the sub2

sub 2 or quad drive ULS-15???? which solution is better (i.e more output, dig deeper)???

Multiple subs will always be Better in room to smooth out response, but PROPER setup will take far more time and effort.
The other question will be whether the quad uls's will offer superior SQ over the Paradigm sub.
Since the Sub 1 & 2 have barely made it to market it's going to be hard to answer about depth without more info about your room.

If you have no issues with placing multiple subs around the room then its an extremely easy answer. Quad drive ULS-15s is the right choice.

Like Warpdrv posted multiple subs give you the best in room response.

Has anyone purchased or heard the Signature Sub 2 yet? How good is it?

A few posts up in this thread, one of the members who purchased a Sub 2 was told that delivery of the first units was scheduled for April due to a required manufacturing fix. Given that, I don't think anyone has heard one other than at CES or at another show where a sample was displayed.

Jeff Fritz also posted his new review involving the SUB 2 in the Paradigm Owners Thread:

I know for a fact that the PBK is compatible with the SE sub. Does anyone know if it's compatible with the Ultracubes?

Ordered mine today. Paradigm is stating delivery April 21.

Good to hear the story is starting to sound the same. i have been waiting on my Sub 2 for almost 2 months now and they are saying it may finally ship 4/20. I guess after they solved the issue with safety some piano black cabinet problems appeared which are delaying all high end products in piano black or so I a told.

Paradigm has sent an email to it's dealers and said Sub 2 is on indefinite hold for a parts issue. Supposedly offering a special deal on pairs of Sub1s.

When was this email sent? I spoke to my dealer on Friday, and they made no mention of it. Paradigm makes parts in house; the supposed benefit is they can make exactly what they need when they need it. So why can't they do that now?

My dealer told me the Sub 2 delay is due to a supply problem for a part in the amp.

This doesn't surprise me. 9kW peak! A few of those could propel a Prius.

Oh well, my Sub 1 has cracked the drywall in 3 separate rooms of my house. Anyone that wants more power must like doing home repairs!

Can't Paradigm improvise with parts from some of those toasters and kettles they test with?

I gave my impressions about 100 posts back in this thread. I have only heard one other sub (a PW-2200) in my 7000 ft^3 room, so I can't claim to give a thorough evaluation. But here are some more thoughts:

1. PBK-1 is really good. I went from +/-3.5 dB over 20-80Hz before EQ to +/- 1.25 dB after EQ. And this is with no room treatments.

2. There is plenty of output during movies, to the point where the projector and wall sconces are vibrating too much to tolerate. The room and stuff in it give out before the sub does.

3. I think the strength of this sub is how it can resolve fast riffs on the bass guitar or upright, where other subs just meld the notes into a sustained 'boom'. I'm sure future reviews will bear this out, but the Sub 1 really is 'tight' or 'fast' or whatever you want to call it.

4. Paradigm makes the crappiest grilles, even on their flagship models. 8 of the 12 grille pins on my Sub 1 arrived broken. My dealer sent me replacements, but because of how they broke, it's nearly impossible to extract the broken fragments from the grilles and holes in the sub. Half of the magnets on my W5 grilles detached from the grilles, I had several grille pins break on my Monitor 9s, and the magnetic grille on one of my SE1s won't align correctly. They should spend a few pennies more and use metal pins and decent epoxy on the magnetic grilles.

Thats right you did, i wantd some newer info thats all. You had the video up right? cant wait for my sub25 to arrive. With you saying what the sub1 can do i can onlu imagine how deadly the sub2 really is

I'm surprised you don't see more about it on here, but low frequencies can really do a lot of physical damage to stuff.

My projector broke around the time I got the Sub 1, which can't be a coincidence. Between that, the aforementioned drywall damage, and hearing everything from the HVAC return to the Wii sensor bar to the fireplace glass rattle when the sub kicks in, I really can't understand how people can tolerate tons of bass in a home environment. Maybe I just need to work harder on vibration isolation of stuff in the room.

Any ole big woofer can produce huge output, but I really appreciate how the Sub 1 can produce big output while also being tight and articulate with percussion and bass strings on music. It's quite a conversation piece as well; people have never seen anything like it.

once I get a house i will have a dedicated home theatre room so i can avoid that. I live in a condo now but my condo is 18 years old the walls are thick concrete, when i pump music till 5am now body can hear at all unless your in the hall way standing close to the door.

My system is pretty loud so with the sub25 added i cant wait to hear the difference.

Low frequency sounds propagates right through my double 5/8" drywall+Green Glue ceiling then a layer of fiberglass batt. In fact, the sub is louder in adjacent rooms than the theatre room itself. Stuff in every room of the 4300 sf house rattles.

Concrete walls are about the only thing that can contain LFE.

Are the simulated examples of soundproofing results on the QuietRock webpage a bunch of BS? The sample quicktime audio files give the impression the bass can be absorbed too:

Sub 20Hz bass is purely in the mass-controlled region; you can't absorb that much energy with QuietRock, GreenGlue, or any other absorptive technique. Nothing short of a concrete wall is going to have a significant transmission loss at those frequencies.

Green Glue does do an amazing job for most music frequencies though.
