Ya.. it's happening if you didnt already know. So much for your trilogies! Anyway.. looks like it's been confirmed that the villian will be the Lizard, and only the Lizard.

Oh well, so much for dumping McGuire and Dunst. Doctor Connors/Lizard is one of the weaker enemies that Spidey fought but I'm sure they will ratch up his powers with a little cgi. I wonder if the setting will be in the swamps like it was in the comics.

Right on!

I've been hoping for The Lizard since Spidey 2. Best choice they could have made. It's a "different" type of villain, could be fairly creepy too if they go that way. The only issue I see is if they are going to have the lizard talk like in the comics. Might be hard to do a talking lizard guy that doesn't look goofy when talking.

But...it's pretty much the only villain choice that re-stokes my interest in the series, especially after the wretched Venom. That character was "after my time" in terms of when I stopped reading Spiderman. I thought it would suck to do Venom and indeed it sucked harder than my imagination could make it suck. Glad he won't be back.

I haven't really enjoyed the Spiderman movies. Part 3 was absolutely terrible. Whoever cast Topher Grace as Venom needs their head examined!

I'm hoping they go with a new director, writers and especially the cast. I don't like Tobey and Kirsten as the leads. For me, the story is a little too romantic, to the point it becomes tiring. This is what killed me in part two. I know I'm in the minority on these films, but I'll be really excited if they change the production team.

engh! Raimi ruined Venom...not much interest for me even though I'm a huge Spidey fan...

Did anyone here watch the animated series from the nineties. The one that used 3D animation for the buildings when he was web slinging, but 2D for the rest. I LOVED that series and was hoping the movies would be like that. Didn't read many comics growing up, so I don't know how faithful the show was, but I didn't miss an episode Saturday mornings.

Judging by the comments I'm guessing none of y'all have heard that they're making a full-on "Venom" film too..

What?! Who is he going to battle? If they cast Topher Grace I hope they all lose their jobs. They simply wouldn't deserve them. I honestly thought Vin Diesel would be an interesting choice. Probably not the best, but a whole lot better than Grace.

I don't mind the spiderman movies, looking forward to see this released on Blu Ray

Gary Ross is writing\\directing it:

And judging by the info in that article, and in this one, it appears that it's going to be a reboot and more-than-likely- Topher Grace will not be returning. There's even a rumor that it could involve the Scorpion-infected-with-alien-parasite storyline. Also it appears its going to be darker to more match the character itself.

You are not alone on the "overly romantic" Spiderman movies. That overdone part killed it for me. I can see some romance but they focus half the movies time for it. It brings in the women but kills it for guys like you and I. I also don't like Tobey and Kirsten. I wish they would get new blood.

I think going with Gary Ross is a bad idea. The man is not about intensity. Pail Wenrick and Rhette Reese are a much better choice in my opinion. Zombieland was incredible!

The cast certainly needs rebooting, particularly the female lead....

Yep. I wouldn't mind if Kirsten Dunst was absent from the next movie. She was extremely annoying in the 3rd movie. I think McGuire is OK as spidey, though.

Everyone needs to go. The only person I thought was good was James Franco.

Is he J Jonah?

James Franco was the first I wanted to see go.

Never liked him that much, but I think it was Spidey 2 where he did his flamboyant "entrepreneur" act that curdled my stomach. 3 movies with Franco....we've had enough of the guy.

He's Peter's best friend and the Hob Goblin or Green Goblin(can't remember which).

actually I thin TM and Fracno are well cast...NO on Dunst. Raimi should've devoted the 3rd film to Venom...Venom was more than a match for Spidey yet he throws Sandman on top of that??!?!? Sorry but Venom was little more than a sideshow ala the Scarecrow in BB!

THe Lizard would have to be altered and just flat out completely ruined to make this movie an adequate sequel...DUMB DUMB DUMB idea!

No, his best and annoying friend. Franco's acting is actually worse than Dunsts'.

Oh no.... Talk about beating a superhero (and viewers) to death!
franco was terrible
kirsten dunst was the worst hollywood actress they could've cast for mary jane -- tara reid would've been better.

the whole franchise has been a snoozfest with a few decent moments here and there. This thing needs a complete reboot. Tobey Maguire was fine - he suits the role. One good actor and a bunch of crappy ones makes for a terrible movie.
I would like to see them do the whole "Gwen Stacy" storyline where he snaps her neck catching her off the Bklyn Bridge...Aw...too depressing? Probably not as depressing as seeing Tobey disco dancing in the last movie...
But I josh, since they could never do that storyline even if they wanted to because they rewrote it for Mary Jane in the first movie.

But yes, adding the Gwen Stacy character would be cool and in turn maybe having her as another love interest to Peter as Gwen, and also as The Black Cat. (By gosh, I'm hired!!!)

There is just something about Tobey Maguire that doesn't fit for me in this role. I think they should have gone with Jake Gyllenhaal instead for Peter.

Toby's voice and the shape of his body kill it for me. Peter Parker should be taller and slimmer. Dunst is just pure wrong for that role. Are they listening to us? He,he.

I made that exact same comment in an earlier thread. When Jake showed up with Kirsten at the premier of the first installment, I thought, "he looks like Peter Parker!"
I'd like to see what Jake could do with the role.

Having Black Cat in the film is a brilliant idea! But only if they use a girl who is naturally sexy and isn't a stick figure. That black suit deserves more than just bones. Remember Jessica Biel in Chuck and Larry as Catwoman
