Black friday deals?

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I am a newbie in this hobby. Just curious to hear from the veterans here, from the previous years, where there typically many great Black Friday deals offered for speakers?

How are they compared to the speaker deals that currently going on right now?

Economy is not great, I am sure everyone is trying to time their purchases...

From what I've seen there aren't a lot of speaker deals on Black Friday - except maybe some mass market type speakers. I think you'd get a better deal on electronics. The real deals on speakers, for me, are when the manufacturer decides discontinue or refresh a specific line and you see clearance prices.

The best deals on speakers are in the used market place.

I couldn't agree with that more!! Do some searching on some older speakers then go find them, you can literally saves hundreds of dollars by going with a slightly older model instead of the newest models that arebeing sold at full inflated retail prices.

Yep, depending on the speakers you can even save thousands. Aerial, PSB, Tyler Acoustic, Dunlavy, and the list goes on. Incredible deals out there on some simply incredible speakers.

it's like black friday, every day

I know last year bing.com went up to like 25% cashback for ebay purchases. I got a great deal on some swan speakers using that. watch for that again. it may not happen though.

Well out side of all the used speakers which is no dough a great way to go on audiogoN. EMP Tek will have some great deals for the holiday and I can swear by those speakers being great if your looking for some thing new that is good sounding. If not there is some good KEF XQ 30 Floorstanding Speaker on audiogon. smile.gif

Unlike TVs where the technology is always being upgraded, speakers tend to have a longer life span. I agree at buying used if you know what you're looking for (eBay, Craigslist, etc.) If not I'd say try buying them when dealers bring out their new models. There's a good chance you could get a company's previous models just above cost. I would never look for speakers during the Christmas holidays.

Buying secondhand is definitely the better deal on a budget. Leave the new speakers to those who have more funds and upgrade often, then pick up their gently used equipment at a huge discount. Unless you happen to come across a closeout as mentioned above.

sometimes around holidays I saw great deals on newegg.com for definitive technology book shelf speakers compared to the full retail price at the hi fi shop. maybe the hi fi store has a two year old speaker model that has been discontinued. I lucked out on that and got a good deal on the demo pair. if the price is to high that they want try to ask if they can go a little lower. I have got great deals at thrift stores and craigslist for older speakers. the people are right used is the way to go. what brands are you the most interested in finding?

If you need a sub, Outlaw Audio sometimes offers good deals for Black Friday/Cyber Monday or the first couple of weeks of December.

I noticed that when amaZon has sales for black friday on speakers or subwoofers, it is a model that reviewers said had problems. A while back on gold box deals they had jbl powered subwoofer that people had problems with.

if you like klipsch then best buy has had good deals on the floor standing speakers that have 8 inch woofers in them for black friday. I think this year the same speakers are on sale for black friday.

I've said this quite often. For the most part, Black Friday is a way to get rid of inventory that has moved slowly for the last three quarters. You should also keep this in mind:

FWIW, when we think about black friday and the various days people tend to wait for, Ascend has always promoted our 30 day in home trial as well as the price protection program to ensure that if anyone purchases then those designs happen to go on sale, Ascend automatically refunds the difference. Due to build time, we want to always encourage that there is never a need to wait to purchase to hope for a discount and/or sale. Ascend has always promoted this way of doing things as we all are sensitive to the economy and the various other elements that hinder or help people purchase. We would rather provide the right product for the correct requirement and setup. Just thought i'd share, happy friday friends! biggrin.gif

Yes, Best Buy has the Klipsch Icon floorstanding speakers at great prices. I already have the larger ones and they sound great in my home theater.

Never heard the speakers so I am not sure if they are worth it or not but it looks like those speakers are normally between 450-500 so not a huge discount.
oh, ok, newegg had them discounted some $1,600 or something crazy so i thought i would at least bring them up. thanks.

I'm just your representative at your service biggrin.gif

Ascend designs are all crazy big sounding but are accurate and real. Dave creates amazing speakers that are only as good as you the listener enjoying them. What good is any product unless us the end user can benefit from all that fidelity? We want these speakers to find their homes so they can be used, that simple.

I wouldn't bother. They are likely very bad. If you find Kef Q900 offered with 30+% discount, that would be a deal to talk about.
