Acer H5360 HD3D (DLP 1280x720) Video Projector - Page 6

A quick question to those who mounted this baby. Which mount did you use ??
I've tried several universal mounts, but they don't seem to fit (too large for this tiny pj and/or the front elevation regulation bolt sits in a way of the mount plate)

The 3 bolts required to attach the pj to the plate are apparently M3x25

That is my setup-H5360 + GT240 + NVidia 3D Vision with glasses/emitter and TMT3/PDVD 10 and it works for 3D!

I just got this machine after the bulb in my last projector (Sharp XV-Z3000) died.

Yes, the black level isn't as good but the rest of it looks pretty good in terms of colour and shadow details.

I've tried out a few 3D movie clips whilst using the nVidia 3D vision kit. Just wow. I'm gobsmacked. Stunning large scale 3D in my own living room. It's amazing.

That's awesome! I didn't want this itch but just simply reading an article and I'm breaking out in a rash!!!

I've read that other people are using other DLP glasses instead of the one that comes with nvision. Sounds like they weren't too happy with it. What is your impression with the glasses? See a need to "upgrade" ?

Also and more importantly, I have my HTPC going thru my Onkyo then to my current PJ. Will it work with 3D as well? Will I need to upgrade my receiver or will I have to plug and HDMI straight from the PC to the PJ?

I'm hoping the Optoma 3D adapter works with our Acer as well. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi,

After reading AVS forums I decided to go for the H5360 instead of OptomaHD66.

I am glad I did, being a first time projector owner I must say its awesome.

My friend owns a Pana AE3000 and he too was amazed at the price point and the beautiful bright picture this projector throws out.

I am glad I got the firmware wherein the Eco mode stays in Eco even after shutting off the projector

I had some questions for experienced H5360 users here:

These are the inputs I need to have to the projector:
I plan to buy the PS3 to watch BlueRay DVD's / DVDs and play games.
I will also need to have a cable tv connection going to the projector
I need to make provision that if I need to hook up a computer or laptop for 3d game play with nvidia vision glasses.

Question, can I use a HDMI splitter to toggle between these inputs and use only a single HDMI cable going to the projector as this is going to be ceiling mounted. If so which ones are have been tried by you guys and have atleast 2 to 3 hdmi inputs to switch from.

PS3 has now announced that BlueRay3d is supported, anyone tried this yet?

Can one play 3d games on PS3 hooked up with this projector over a
HDMI 1.3 or 1.4 cable? Any known issues with which kind of cable works
or any specific settings to be able to play 3d games from PS3 correctly.

All your inputs will be appreciated.

Rgds

Yep. You can use any simple HDMI switch.

Nope. Not yet. PS3 sends out a HDMI 1.4 compliant frame packed format. The H5360 accepts 120Hz sequential format.
But Optoma have announced a box that will convert PS3's format to DLP sequential format. Should be available in Jan at around $400.

I have an H5360 and notice that when I adjust the color values in the menu they revert to the defaults every time it turns on.

Do other people with this projector have the same behavior, or does it remember your settings?
Well, I just bit the bullet and went with this projector. I have to say that the 3d is very impressive. Just as good, if not better, than the Real 3D theaters I've been to.

Initially, I went with the nvidia 3d vision kit and 3 pairs of the optoma glasses. Turns out that I could not get the 2 different glasses to work at the same time, not to mention the fact that I had to change the setting on the PJ just to accomodate them which I hated to do because the colors and hues get all out of whack. So I settled with 3 pairs of the nvidia glasses and justified it for various reasons: they fold, they're rechargable and they just work (and they come with decent slip cases to protect from scratches and dust).

Bottom line, I'm just waiting for content now. got Cloudy, Monster House and M vs A. I bought 4 for myself, my wife and my 2 children but decided against my 5 year old watching due to what I've read here and there. Such a shame. He can't enjoy it until who knows when really. Well worth the investment and will keep me at bay until I upgrade my 1080p in the future.

You have to change to the 'User' setting, and make your adjustments to that.
Then, it should remember your customzations and stay on the 'User' setting when you power on, instead of resetting back to the Standard.

If you want to use one of the existing presets as a starting point, make a note of them, and change the 'User' setting to match, then start your adjustments.

I just wish there was a way to disable (or at least reduce) the dynamic contrast ratio...

Does anyone know how to get into a service menu beyond the default controls??
Ahh, I see now that it was user error after all. Thanks for the reply! That made me realize that I had selected the 'Nvidia 3D Vision' as the mode for 3D and that forces it to use the color values for that profile.

Hi,
I've read all thread and I have not found a response for what I looking for:
Is really the acer h5360 capable to do 24p?
The datasheet: "vertical range: 50-85hz (50-120hz from Decembre 2009)"
I think to do 24p the projector would be a 24hz-120hz vertical range.
Anyone could tell me if really runs at 24hz/p?
I'm wrong? is the specification wrong?

thanks

I have to also give this projector a big thumbs up. It's image is brighter than my old projector, an Optoma HD70. I have it hooked up to my pc and I'm having a blast playing all of my old games in 3d. I like 3d well enough for movies, but playing video games in 3d is so much more immersive and at times, jaw dropping. I went back and played HL2:episode1 and it looks amazing! L4D2 is scarier somehow in 3D as well. I've only played Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in 3d and it also looks fantastic (I couldn't use PowerDVD 10 Ultra however as it has a bug which gave me no audio on the optical cable in cinema mode which is required for 3d.)

cons:
I do miss the horizontal keystone that my old projector had. I had to put up a new shelf to get this in the center of my screen. I have to move my screen a foot closer to the projector as it couldn't throw a small enough image to fit it. I hated that 3d message that popped up so I took it out of 3d mode, which is no big deal as it automatically switches to 3d as soon as I set a video game to 720p. All minor annoyances really. Perhaps a firmware update could cure most of them?

Either way, I'm pretty happy with it.

It says on the Acer site that it does. Here's the link. Look under "Perfect movie projection".

Hope that helps,

Hey guys, got this projector this week and I'm trying to mount it on the ceiling but got a few problems. The manual and everywhere on the web it says that it needs M3x25mm screws, which is exactly what i got. But the three holes on the projector are too small to fit, i can't manage to get the screws in, i checked with other M3 screws and same result. I'm using screws that are flat at the bottom, that's right isn't it? Or should i use screws with sharp ends to pierce through the plastic holes of the projector? How did you manage to mount yours?

Thanks in advance,
Cedric

EDIT : A picture of my problem :

The left hole is the one where i tried to "strongly" screw the screw in, the right one is the normal hole.

What if i cannot select 1280/120Hz on V700 even with the 5360.INF file installed? I tested on two PC's, both with xp sp3.
One with Nvidia 7600GT PCIExpress, the other is an Ati 4350 with dvi, hdmi connectors.. I tested with short hdmi cables.
But when i force 120Hz in Catalyst, the resolution go back to 1024x768 or below.
What's the solution?
Any use the Fuji 3D W1/W3 output on this projector? If so, how do like it? Still or HD movie?

I have a laptop that has only an ATI 5650 (I think) graphics card.
Can I use this for 3D or must it be the Nvidia card ?

Has anyone used both the H5360 and HD66? Which should I choose between the two? I'm looking to use it mainly for gaming and 3D.

Guys, pls do me a favor and tell me what should i buy:

Acer H5360 or Viewsonic PJD6531?

Cons and pros pls?
> Acer is DarkChip3 - Viewsonic ???
> Acer has 6 segment wheel, 3x speed - Viewsonic has 5, ? speed
> Acer is smaller and white
> Acer is quieter
> Both have same contrast ratio (on paper) but the brighter the pj the worse is overall ANSI contrast on screen AND rainbow effect might get nasty at times

> Viewsonic has a very respectful lamp-life (6k hours ?!)

-------------------------
Optoma HD66/67 has also DarkChip3, 4x wheel speed and has lowest brightness out of the 3 pj's so RBE should be less obvious.
Optoma is slightly noisier than Acer...

Any Viewsonic PJD6531 owner here?

I am seriously considering this PJ (Acer H5360). I have had many PJ before this but the only true home theater one was a Sanyo PLV-Z3, which overall worked nicely. It had a decent HD image (720P). However there were a few issues: Lamps were hatefully expensive (usually around $270.00 - OUCH) and there were issues with burned polarizers from the PJ running a bit too hot. For that reason alone I will never go near another LCD PJ! No matter what the manufacturers tells you, LCD can not handle heat and they deteriorate quickly (my PJ only had about 4000 hours on it and it was shot)! I had a Dell XGA DLP but this particular PJ was a piece of crap (and I am being kind here). it failed 4 times in a single year. Yes, Dell replaced it with a refurbished PJ overnight but after that many failures one has to suspect that it is not a very well built PJ. However, when the PJ did work the image was outstanding! It had a slow color wheel so I did occasionally notice color separation or the "rainbow effect" - but the occurrences were rare and did not bother me. I remember the contrast looked pretty good (it was 1:1800), in fact it looked slightly better then the Sanyo which had 1:2000 CR!

I need to keep costs down! That is where the Acer H5360 comes in; I can get it for around $600 including shipping (I am saving up - should have enough by Xmas). This is well within my means but I am concerned with reliability issues. For one thing I have pets (4 dogs and 4 cats - yeah I know, a lot but I am an animal lover and live in the country on 10 acres) so dust / hair is a problem. How is the fan/filter issue with the H5360? Can it be vacuumed out (as I did with my NEC DLP PJ)? I don't beleive there is a filter but is the light engine and DLP apparatus sealed (so to prevent dust from getting inside and onto the image)? This was occasionally a problem with the Sanyo however the Sanyo had 3 strategically located holes underneath where a special lens cleaner/blower with a thin tube could be used to "blow" the dust off the lcd panels; it worked very well.

Also the Sanyo had incredible lens shift ability (which the H5360 does not). I am most concerned about where the actual lens is in relationship to the bottom of the projected image (from the front of the PJ to the screen in my set up will be about 11.5") I plan to put the PJ on a table and front project!

Whew, I think that's it for now. Thanks in advance to any help you can offer!

Can anyone confirm that current Amazon stock are new firmware version?
I don't own an LCD projector, It do own a Mits HC3800. That said, I haven't heard much negative lately regarding LCDs. They are greatly improved. The H5360 is a 720p DLP projector with a slow color wheel and 3D capable. If you want 3D, then it's probably a cheap way to go. If you want outstanding HD, then you might have problems with rainbow affect due to the slow color wheel. I don't see the comparison with your other projectors with the H5360. It's apples and oranges. Don't expect a cheap projector to do all the things you want (e.g. lens shift, etc.). What specifically do you want to achieve in a projector?
Both Acer and Optoma HD66 are filter-free pj's and their lamps are cheapest on the market.
Both utilise the newest DarkChip 3 and have moderate offset.
Acer isn't slow speed - it has 3x wheel when using HDMI and 2D; 2x when watching 3D at 120Hz

Optoma has 4x wheel but is slightly noisier... Benq W600 has 2x wheel and uses older DarkChip 2.
I found that the emitter for the Nvidia 3D vision glasses simply doesn't have the range I need. If I sit in each of the four seating positions in my HT I run into problems. No problems in the seats directly in front of the emitter; however, if you sit further to the side of the emitter the glasses will lose sync. The seats are all within about 7 feet or so of the emitter. I've ordered a pair of Optoma 3D DLP link glasses to see how they work. I'm surprised no one else has this problem, or reported it.

When the glasses are working properly the 3D from the Acer is amazingly good!
Unfortunately I do not have an NVIDIA graphics card in my Sony laptop (ATI).

My question is how can I use the 3D option?
I have PowerDVD10 on laptop.

Is there such a thing as an external graphics card (I had a tower PC previously and installing the graphics card would have been easy).

Any way round this ?
I don't know which one works but there are external Nvidia graphics cards. I can't insert a link with my mobile app but here's the google link.
