Acer H5360 HD3D (DLP 1280x720) Video Projector - Page 56

@Durvelle27 I'm on the latest 310.90, also had the same issue with 310.70.

@blackoper I know right, got the emitter plugged in and stereo drivers installed but it just will not give me any stereo 3D options.

The only conclusion I can come to is that the HDMI out doesn't go through the nvidia card - but then surely it wouldn't let me open the control panel?! It's very frustrating!

Reinstall the driver using the clean option. See if that helps. It fixed a weird problem ihad once
post #1653 of 1714
if you uninstall the driver use driver fusion also to completely remove them

So I've had the h5360 for two years and there still isn't really a better 3d gaming projector out there. I figured a 1080p nvidia vision capable projector would be around by now but nope... starting to think I should just get two more and flip them into portrait mode, use nthusim to align it/blend it all and then have at some 3d 2160x1280 gaming

It is my understanding the cooling in common inexpensive DLP projectors like this are not designed for portrait use, and the metal halide lamps will fail very prematurely (possibly damaging the projector internals) if used that way unfortunatly.

I was quoted $400 flat fee and I pay shipping. Anyone have recent experience in the US? Maybe they bumped up their price?
I'd like to add that the DLP chip failed about 2 months out of warranty and only a few hundred hours service, not very robust.

Considering Newegg has had the H5360 on sale for $350-380 (with free shipping) at least twice in the last 3 months, I don't see how this is a good deal ....

No, and I don't have faith in a $400 projector that doesn't even last 18 months.

I wouldn't judge this pj based on a single failure. I have faith in my H5360 that's lasted 2+ years and 1400 hours on the original bulb. Awesome picture, awesome 3D, awesome price.
just passed 5,000 hours on original bulb. none of that time has it been in Eco mode. I'm fairly certain the bulb has lasted this long due to the much cooler air it stays in behind the wall in my basement storage room. colors are still good but picture has lost some brightness say 25%
post #1662 of 1714
I'm at 14 months and about 1200 hours on the bulb in Eco. No problem with operation, color, or brightness. Added a Darbee Darblet a few months back and will try to hold off on upgrading for another year.

My only problem was with a borked EDID on the Acer a few months into using it with a double-monitor setup. An EDID override INF file fixes it well enough, but it's still a bit of a PITA having to apply the file each time I update drivers or change HDMI connections.

Does this work for 3D without using an actual computer? Or do you need to run this through an actual computer to view 3D?

You either need a Desktop or laptop with compatible 3D capable graphics or a 3D converter like the Optoma 3D-XL Converter Box for 3D Video and Gaming

Durvelle27,

Thank you for all the feedback. Last question, can you use HDMI 1.4 with this PJ, plus 3D-XL and PS3? (Or anybody that can answer) Thank you.

The projectors HDMI port is HDMI 1.3 but can be used with a HDMI 1.4 cable

3dxl and Playstation 3 work just fine with the Acer. I also have used Xbox 360 and 3dxl as well. 3d is very solid with this setup.

If you have a bit of electronics know-how, an Arduino, and a spare HDMI cable you can cut apart, you can reprogram your EDID. I did mine, it was actually really simple. I could do a write-up if anybody's interested.

Also, the stuck pixel problem is a known defect with this unit:
http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/projector/2010/acer/H5360/H5360faq5.shtml
I'm amazed they can state as fact on their own website that the product is defective, and then not do anything about it for the customers.

Thanks for the offer. I hadn't run across that as a possible solution. The one solution I was researching about a year ago involved using PowerStrip and an older nVidia card to reprogram it. Since I was able to locate and modify an H5360 INF file that I could just use as an override driver, I never bothered with the PowerStrip fix.

I would like to fix it once and for all; however, the INF trick works, is quick and easy (albeit a couple of extra steps each time you change drivers or HDMI connections), and didn't involve purchasing anything.

Received this PJ 2 hrs ago. I have it plugged in and hooked through cable box via HDMI. The pic is so blurry I cannot even read the menu settings options....any advise?

Sorry to ask but did you adjust the focus dial?

Is the this still the go-to 120hz projector or are there others, hopefully 1080p, that I should be looking at? I care about 2d 120hz not 3d.

I am not sure what is going on. I received this PJ on Thursday, and I have to have the room completely black to see the pic nicely. It is not nearly as bright as I was expecting. Could it be due to the fact that I have a 3 yr old HDMI cable, and it is spliced with another one because it was a foot short?

Also, when you turn ECO mode off, is it immediate or does it take a while for it to brighten up?

Digital cables like hdmi mean it either works or it doesn't although occasionally you can get sparklies if it's close to not working but brightness wouldn't be a factor. Eco mode off would be instant. I usually have a light on in my room on the far end with the main lights off. It's not ultrabright and is not usable with the lights on if that is what you are asking. When you use it in 3d mode with the glasses, you lose even more of the light

I've been hoping for something else as well...but no, not yet frown.gif
Concerning x3 in portrait mode, there is another problem to consider, the lack of horizontal lens shift means you'll be casting a shadow, or looking way up at an image above you. Or you'll need to do a reap projection setup. wink.gif

Nope, not yet.

3500 hrs on original bulb. Changed it out just to have a spare and to see how much brightness had been lost.
A noticable difference but less than switching from Eco On to Eco Off.
Not a single problem after two years.
Besides poor black level (which is no surprise) the image has been consistantly pleasant, even shockingly good on high contrast bluray scenes.
Maybe not the best $600 I've ever spent but close to it.
Hunting through the recent crop of low end projectors produces nothing significantly better for my needs.
