Panasonic Viera Not Displaying iMac

Dear Wise Men,

I am new to the world of technical expertise. Your patience and indulgence are appreciated. With self-flagellation behind me, allow me to pose my question.

In short, my new Panasonic Viera (TC-P50G10) is not displaying my Intel iMac 5.2.; this despite the fact that the iMac recognizes the Panasonic in the Detect Display feature. What am I doing wrong?

My connection is as follows.

A mini-dvi-to-HDMI adapter is connected to the mini-dvi port of the iMac.
An HDMI cable connects from one end of that adapter to the television's HDMI2 port.
(Audio is unimportant to me at this time)

When I cycle from the TV input to the HDMI2 input then the display switches to black -- as if there is nothing connected. I have tried to use the iMac's "mirror the display" feature and, still, nada.

When I reviewed the Panasonic's manual I noticed that the discussion concerning computer connections seems to revolve around the -- um -- the RGB PC cable (and possible need for adapters). What's more, computer image resolution matters/options such as Sync, Dot Clock, Clock Phase, among others, seem accessible only when I cycle to the PC input, not when I cycle to any other input, be it TV or HDMI. In short, I wonder if this means that a computer connected to the TV must be connected to the RGB PC port; in other words, a computer connected to an HDMI port will not display on the TV.

Does anyone have experience in this matter? Have I overlooked something? Insight is welcome.

Thank you.

P.S. My email to Panasonic should be answered within the next two/three days. I will post the reply here, in hopes that it will prove useful to others.

I have connected my iMac this way to many different TVs and they work fine. Make sure your HDMI cable is good as well as the mini DVI to HDMi adapter. Also, leave the TV in the correct HDMI input and then restart the Mac. Choose Detect Displays and see if it does anything.

I have a mac mini connected to my 46" panasonic viera G10 with a mini dvi->dvi adapter and a dvi->hdmi cable. I didn't have to do anything besides plug the cable in. I don't know why it's not working for you but I agree with bommai that it's probably a bad cable or adapter. Ignore the stuff in the manual, that's only if you connect it with a VGA cable.

SOLVED

Thank you, both, for your prompt and insightful replies. Indeed, following bommai's suggestion, I kept the TV in the HDMI display during the Mac restart process. Sure enough, the TV turned from black to the blue desktop. All is right with the world -- or at least that part of the world that is my basement.

Thank you again.
