Weird Green-Negative Effect

Hi all

i have connected a 37" Philips 8404 with an ATI Radeon 5770 via HDMI.

Every 15-30 minutes the picture gets green and like inverted.
Very Low-Res Photo:

Currently I have to start the ATI CatalystControlCenter and change the TV's Pixel Format configuration. This seems to reinitialize the HDMI-connection, the effect disappears. Without any action, the effect seems to be persistent.

The HDMI cable is 10m long, quite thick, has golden contacts and two ferrit-rings and advertised as HDMI 1.3. It seems to be well built.
I tried a 5m ~70 EUR cable as well and the effect appeared too. Perhaps less often or after a longer time.

I am running Windows 7 x64 Prof, everything incl. ATI up-to-date.
The Philips has the newest firmware and its HDMI-Connection to the PC is configured as "Computer" (so it seems the "PC Mode" is implicitly enforced?).

Is this a HDMI issue? Any advice?
Thanks alot!

It would appear to be some type of HDMI issue, but the intermittent nature of the failure makes it difficult to pin down the problem. Unfortunately, I don't have any good advice on how to further isolate it. HDMI is rather quirky and you might try playing with the some of the settings to see if that helps.

Thank you. Do you estimate this to be a Philips/HDMI-Problem or rather an ATI-Driver Problem?
All these copyprotection-standards like HDCP and CI+ are more than crappy...

I agree about the copy protection. It was put in place because of paranoid content providers.

It's just a guess but I would think the Philips is more likely the problem than the ATI since it's going into some wierd mode. Do you have any other receiver you can try with the ATI to help isolate the problem?

Try moving the connector cable to see if the problem can be made to happen during movement. You may have some sort of handshake issue between the TV and the ATI card.

I think to have nailed that thing to be a Pixel Format problem with the ATI.

This is an image from Wikipedia of the YCbCr Color-Model:

My green Effect is exactly the fourth picture, showing the Cr component.

So it seems the YCbCr PixelFormat (which is adjustable in the ATI CCC) causes the problems over HDMI.
Trying now with RGB full & limited Pixel Format...

got it: YCbCr fails with the ATI card. You have to enable RGB full.
This sucks.
