Sony G70 Error Code 23 24 29 36

Hello,

I got a G70 early October. After a week I started the pj first time. I could go to the Service Menu but was not able to change any settings. To get out of the Service Menu was not possible, so I switched to standby and then stopped it.

Last week I tried it again and nothing happened. After starting it showes for one second 88 on display than it changed to standby.

Yesterday I tried it again and pressed on and off sometimes on the controllpanel. Now it started and I could use the normal menu but not the Setup menu. After about 2 Min. it stopped and on the display error codes 23 24 29 36 were seen one after another.

Today it was not possible to start it again, only standby and no codes.

I got another G70 working fine. Is it possible to use some Boards from them to check the damaged one without any risk for the good Boards? I would be totaly said if my second G70 would be damaged too.

Another Idea is to test a EA Board I have free for replacement. Would that help for testing error codes?

Best wishes

If this was a Marquee then swapping boards to get the other one running is fine. however I would NOT do this on a G70. Ask Curt which boards to send in for repair.

My only experience in troubleshooting is to change a EA Board in March this year.

The only error code I have at the moment is 29. The other disappeared after changing polarisation to up.

A friend told me it must be the dallas chip with an empty battery. So I have to change that first.

Where can I get the right one?

if it's the YA-YB memory board(s) I have a tested working pair here. It's the last of my sony parts. PM me if interested

BEFORE you do anything else, check the three scan plugs and the little toggle switch (the plugs and switch you change to change from right side up to upside down for ceiling mounting) on the big door that you open to get to the boards. If the polarity is reversed on one of the plugs it will cause a problem and even damage.

Hey Dragman, how are you doing?

i'm doing fine, but working too much. Research funding is up at my day job and I've become one of Curt's Oompa-Loompa's in the third party section.
Hope your doing OK too or as well as can be expected at least.

I had no idea setting the scan's wrong on the G70 could damage it. I take it that if you set 2 tubes normal scan and one reversed it could damage the machine. WOW, bad design.

Hello,

thank you for your help.

I checked polarisation and nothing changed.

Now I replaced E-Board and than I made a soft reset (10 sec Reset Button) and voila I could use first time remote control and was able to go to service menu. At the moment I saved my setting, G70 stopped and changed to Standby without any error code.

Today I restarted G70 and I could start and stopp it by softbutton without any problems and no error codes shown on display.

What can I now do to find the error. Is the old Dallas chip responsible for this Problem?

sounds like a bad E-board. Have curt fix it

If the Dallas chip is original and therefore almost 10 years old you need to replace it ASAP in any case. The Li battery embedded in the chip will start to get flaky. I don't think this is your problem but its good preventive maintenance especially if you paid for, or spent time calibrating and setting up your projector.

According to the datasheet from ST ( http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datashe...8Y-120PM1.html )

This part has no visible datacode. However, your G70 projector has a production date code on the cabinet. Check this one and the datecode of this NOVSRAM memory is not far from the PJ one ! If more than 10 years passed from then, change the memory with new one (after making the data retreival from the original one with a standalone or PC based programmer).

Hello,

thank you for your help. I got a new RAM and replaced the old one.

First I started pj. with open case. It worked without problems for four hours. Than I stopped and restarted without any probs. Afterwards I closed the case and it worked for another 2 1/2 hours before I stopped the G70. Today I checked it again and it worked fine for one hour.

So I believe the problem seemed to be to an old NVRAM. The G70 is build in 1997.

The only little problem I have now is the lost serial no. and hours on tubes.

I read here in another Thread from axatax the following:

You can duplicate the contents of the existing NVRAM by replacing the factory data EPROM with the existing NVRAM module, and placing the new NVRAM module in the old NVRAM module's socket. From this point, you would press and hold the button as in the previous step. When the PJ reboots, shut it down, and place the factory data EPROM back in it's original position. This will preserve your settings.

Unfortunately I have no idea where to find the factory data Eprom on the YB Board? Can you help me?

Another possibility would be a eeprom reader.

Are the datas still available on the old NVRAM? So I would buy an eeprom reader to save them.

Best wishes
