Ok so it was new, the other thing like i said was it was only 898 at walmart when we all bought it. And now the tv is discontinued so you got it at a good price.

I bought the sharp 52" LC-52SB57UN from Wal-mart on November sale for $898. Until now it was working good and picture quality was great. Now I started noticing a vertical band about 3" in the right side.

I went to the sharp site and reported two days back. But no reply from them. Today I called them and created the support ticket. They asked me to send the photos to dispatch@sharpsec.com with support reference number. I have sent the photos and they said it will take two days to get back to me.

Have anyone of you faced this issue and contacted sharp? Please provide me information if have any... thanks.

+1

Really impressed with the quality of this set considering my bottom $$$ investment. I have MANY hours on the set already since mommy spends 80% of her time at home with my daughter.

This set is always on, even if it is just background Disney DVD's or Sprout/Nick/etc and I haven't had a problem to date. (Knock on Wood)

For an impulse buy while running across the sale by mere coincidence during a shopping trip, I couldn't be more satisfied.

Off angle viewing loses some quality when out beyond 38-45 degrees from center. In the sweet spot though, blacks are very good and color has been pretty accurate since I calibrated w/ THX disk.

Have had a few instances where reflective glare has driven me batty, but that is only in a dark room when someone turns on lights in the background. It is not nearly as reflective as some of the sleeker LCD panels of 2009.

I've got an LG LH90 on order which should arrive later this week and I am looking forward to calibrating it and comparing Blu-Ray Planet Earth on the Sharp to the LH90.

I'll probably post an update later.

As for calibration settings, I haven't tweaked the set too far from my original settings and I think any adjustments I made might be personal preference. I'm still just really enjoying the set. (My personal Best Buy of 2009)

Best of luck w/ Sharp Support on your set and the vertical banding. Have you tried a hard reset?

So what did you use for your setting and did you update your firmware?

Here is my experience, I did not have any trouble with sharp support.

After creating the ticket with support and sending the photos, they called me two days later and asked for proof of purchase. I faxed the walmart receipt and also send it through the email. Two days later they called me and said they are going to replace the TV with rectified TV (I asked them what they mean by rectified, the rep told me it is open box item). Yesterday I got call from carrier that they are coming on friday to replace the TV.

The turn over time is 15 days.

The funny thing is the vertical band disappeared in my TV from today afternoon... :-)

Anyway I am waiting for the replacement TV as this vertical band appeared twice in the same area. First time it stayed only for couple of hours. Second time it stayed about two weeks.

Hoping the replacement TV will not have any issues...
I did try the latest firmware and did not help the vertical band issues...

How to see the back light hrs?

The new firmware update gives it an option to change between dolby digital and pcm but my tv, the 46" version, apparently doesn't have that option after the new update. Anyone else notice this? I was hoping it would do digital passthrough.

I take it this doesn't do 5.1 via optical out, correct? That I must buy an optical out cable for my xbox 360 to hook directly to my receiver?

Basically no HDTVs will pass DD5.1 from HDMI to the optical output. The optical output will ony pass DD5.1 from the TV's internal tuner.

If you are using the TV's internal tuner then go to the "Digital Setup" menu, the Audio Setup option will be shown on that menu.

Thanks. I guess it didn't show for me because I didn't realize it had to be switched to TV and I don't have cable at the moment.

My biggest complaint at first with this tv seemed mouse input lag using HDMI. Now with this update and being all too aware of the placebo effect, it does seem more responsive which is important when playing twitchy PC-based games like Quake Live and BF series.

btw, I have a few pixels, or spots of varying sizes but less than a pen point that, when using an all black background, they don't change color. But when I view the "stuck pixels", if that's what they are, they change color along with the angle at which I'm viewing them. Is this stuck pixels or some kind of phenomenon with dust in the screen?
^ try watching a different input device (like a blu-ray player or OTA HD channels) and see if they disappear.
Ok, I tried the xbox and same deal. I noticed the one anomaly, which I'm sure is a stuck pixel. The other 5-6 in the lower right hand corner are smaller and don't seem symmetrical in shape but I've tried pixel unsticking software and massaging them so much I think my wife is jealous of them now. But nothing worked so far, even cleaning. No big deal, it's only noticeable when the screen is totally black.

Use Game mode if you want minimum input lag.

Separate topic. I have recently began using the movie settings on the tv, which basically takes advantage of the film mode set to high. I noticed a huge difference in the picture. The picture seems much better, but movement looks weird. I cannot tell if the motion is too fast or lagged. At any rate, what are your guy's thoughts on this option?

I noticed the same thing when I recently tried "film mode" though I'm using the TV for home theater PC use and all my videos I play with VLC. For some movies, like late night shows and concerts that are meant to appear live, it looks great. For standard movies, some artistic quality is gone and it almost looks like it's unfinished behind-the-scenes shots because of the live effect.

I also notice the speed seems to appear erratic when in film mode for most movies. Anyone know what the problem is exactly or if there's any way to fix this? The film is a lot clearer but movements sometimes seem quicker and jerkier.

Well, I am still having a problem with the sound and it might be the cable box but its not operating correctly...

However, I still have another issue and that is the TV will turn when I am watching a program. Sometimes a message will pop-up and say something like, "Due to inactivity the set will turn off in three minutes and then that will disappear. So if you aren't watching at that moment, you wont be able to boost the volume so the TV wont turn off but this is so annoying.

Anyone else out there have this issue???

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but can anyone point me to the latest firmware? The version i'm currently running is S0905201. I can't seem to find a newer version on the sharp website.

I would stay with what you have unless you have some HDMI type issue.

I reverted back to old Firmware (HLNTC405.UVP, T0909251). The new firmware (HLNTC406.UVP) caused red smearing from lips on shows like Grey's Anatomy (very annoying). The red smearing was worse with a light grey background.

Here is the SharpUSA.com link to the FW updates:

Note: Official Owner thread are meant to be used for all question for that model. You did the correct thing to post this question here.

I have a Sharp LC65" LCD. I am getting the buzzing noise too. I think its related to the backlight option.

In game mode... when I set it high.. buzzing starts. when I click it low... the buzzing goes away.... What gives?

Is this enough to warranty getting a replacement?

Ive had the sharp LC-52SB57UN for about two years now and all my HDMI connections have stopped working.. tried different devices and cables with no luck. Component still works perfectly.
