hey guys im looking into getting a new sub for my system, i currently use the crappy stock onkyo sub that came with my Onkyo HT-SR800 system. The reciever is a HT-R550.

I have two options im looking at, i can either get a Chrysalis by Velodyne Starfire 10' sub for $205 out the door brand new or i was looking at vanns deal on the Jamo300 sub for 180 shipped.

which would you suggest?
i have my HT system plugged into my computer via S/PDIF, and about 80% of usage on the HT system is music listening.

At around $200, you can get BIC F12 which will most likely be better than any of the two you mentioned above.

Jamo can do 300 W vs. Velo 250 W, Jamo can get down to 28 Hz vs Velo 33 Hz,
Jamo cost $180 and Velo $205.

Not hard to see the better deal based on numbers alone.

I have the Jamo and am very happy with it.

Excellent point, I would take the F12 anyday over either of those subs. Better extension and output down low with the F12 based on company stats from each. The F12 has also been sold for as little as $155-$170 which makes it even more inviting. It also has a thread with hundreds of happy owners to validate it's performance with impressions and the odd measurement or two.

The Jamo Sub-300's graph on their website shows that it drops off a cliff at around 32hz.
The F12 is rated down to 25hz...so I guess it's clearly a better deal based on numbers alone.
