leckig, what size screen are you looking for, 46", 55", etc ?
If you are looking to purchase a LCD set in either size i would definitely check out the new Toshiba with LED backlight; Home Theater magazine tested the 46" model in its November issue and the set got a great review : very good gray-scale tracking, accurate color points (with the exception of green, which was somewhat oversaturated but did not veer towards yellow or cyan), excellent shadow detail and, of course, some of the deepest level of black shown when displaying a full black image onscreen, measured below 0.001 ft-L.
I am not sure if the review is already posted online, but you can check out their website and find out; By the way, on the same magazine issue, there is a review of the LG set that also uses LEDs for backlight, so you'd be able to compare both sets tested under the same conditions.

both are on sale now,around $1200 and $1300.

That's probably because they don't get asked this question 10 times a day.

The biggest you can get in your price range would be the 55" Vizio LCD, the newer Vizio 55" LED/LCD just came out so the price on the LCD version came down quite a bit.

The 550 55" Vizio can be found at Samsclub and Costco, the 550M can be found at WalMart.

Check out the Vizio thread for more info if you are not familiar with Vizio's, they really are great displays and great bang for the buck.
