Official DVICO TViX M6620N HD (ATSC/QAM) Tuner Topic - Page 9

The speed of the TViX over WiFi depends critically on the quality of the rf link. In any case, I would not expect acceptable performance of HD video streaming over 11g. You really need to have an 11N link for that. 11g is OK only for DVD-quality streams.
well...typically a good 11g Wi-Fi connection can easily reach 18-20 Mbps that is the very same average speed that the M-6600 can have with respect to an 11n AP.
Don't you think that there is something wrong with its F/W??
No, I don't think that the issue is with the firmware. "Average" speed is just that--an average. For video streaming, the important number is the minimum speed during the session. WiFi links often suffer a lot from intermittent RFI that lowers their instantaneous transport speeds.

As a follow up to my initial comments and observations of my M-6620N, I put together a video review of most of the major features of this device so you can see it for yourself. I had to hook it up to my Hauppauge HD-PVR but alas with only the analog video output. So the video you see here is 1) lower resolution and 2) may display interlacing in certain parts. Rest assure the actual unit displays full 1080p resolution if your display supports it. In other words, it looks awesome.

I hope this helps you guys doing research on this product to decide if it would work for you.

Hey, that was very cool of you to provide that! I did not know we had subtitle shift ability on this unit!!! Where were you when I was watching The The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons on my 2.35:1 projection system in my theater... I could not read most of the captions during both movies which made it a little harder to follow! Looks like I will be watching both again!

Thanks for the hard work, and the good over view of features. My favorite is the cover art for all my HD movies with the synopsis added in there for good measure!

I'm with DK: Nice work Phuoc! That video gives a good feel for using the device to those who've not seen it. Thanks a lot!

You're all very welcome!

Is it possible to add discrete on and discrete off commands (for use with a Harmony remote, or similar)? If so, I request it in a future firmware update.
Leporello, I believe that the codes are already supported (but not well documented). I know that they already existed in the M4100 firmware and I expect that they have been retained in all subsequent ones. Google is your friend. Check, for example, this thread for some discussion of the subject.

Alternatively, you can take the coward's way out that I do with the Harmony and simply use the MOVIE key as "on" and the powertoggle key for "off".

Hello,

I have been trying to figure out who to change the menu language on my 6620. I just received it in the mail from Korea and the setting to change the language is greyed out. I tried reseting the device by selecting "load default settings" but have had no luck. The manual says I should be prompted with a screen asking me to select a language after resetting but it just loads the menu screen (still showing in Korean).

I also tried updating the firmware to 1.9.6B7_Beta from the website but still have had no luck.

I am hoping there is some way to do a hard reset so that I can actually read the device in English rather than Korean

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tony
The instructions in the manual pertain to the official international edition of the TViX. You have purchased a Korean domestic market unit. These are intentionally limited to korean language to dissuade gray marketeers such as your vendor.

Having said that, I note that you can probably google to a hack, as is possible for older TViX models.
Thanks for the reply TPeterson. I have been searching for the past few hours for way to unlock the unit but have had no luck. Anyone know of anywhere to download a firmware to unlock the device?

Thanks in advance,

Tony
Tony,

The firmware may not update unless you do a safe upgrade. Check the instructions online on how to do that. As long as you download the international firmware I think it should allow you to change to English. It can't hurt to try right?

BZZZT! Wrong! But thank you for playing.
Haha...yeh after days of research, I have realized I am just stuck right now. I guess I just have to keep hunting for a firmware release by someone who has unlocked the Korean versions.
...or you could return the gray-market box (for a refund?) and get an official international version from a licensed retailer....
So has anyone installed the latest version? I use the 6620 for a lot of Bluray playback so I am currently on the prior release. Is there a newer firmware which does not affect the Bluray playback?

True....I could do this. I checked the shipping rates just to send the product back and I am looking at $150 one way.

I think I will take my chances of someone finding a way to unlock the Korean versions.

I can get by for now as I can still view all of my backed up movies. I just have to get a Rosetta Stone on Korean to decipher the menu language.
Could you elaborate what do you mean by "OSD" and how to turn it on? Thanks.
"OSD" == On-Screen (menu) Display.

You don't "turn it on", it automatically appears to give feedback whenever you press a key on the remote control.
Thank you, TPeterson. My question pertains to your earlier response on adjusting the 15 sec skip interval. It works, and I have just changed to 30 sec. Great.

I got my M-6620N two days ago. Today the skip interval changed by itself from 30 sec to 10 sec. No only that, every time I use the skip function, it makes a clicking noise. This drove me nuts! Thanks to you, I now fixed the interval. The noise is gone as well!

Another question: Do they at DIVCO plan to add NetFlix function to make the M-6620N Netflix-ready? If not, I am considering returning the unit. It's just too buggy.
Why would you want a buggy NetFlix box?

I have no information on such plans, but it seems to me that you can find a less costly solution for online NetFlix anyway if that's what you're looking for.
Hi,
I just got the m6620n, and I was trying to get a splitter, and I see that there are a lot of considerations, this is my configuration, the cable from Comcast has splitter one goes to the cable modem and the other to the HDTV, this last one I'm planning to split one for the HDTV and one for the m6620n. In the market there are 1Gz, 2Gz splitters I read that 1Gz is enough for cable, I also read about the degradation of the signal, Does any of you guys can give specifications for the splitter, or at least what splitter not to buy.
Thanks,

capf
A 1-GHz splitter is fine for cable. A good two-way splitter will reduce the signal in both of its outputs by just a tad over 50% (aka -3 dB). Sometimes the splitter has this loss noted on its label or in the manufacturer's spec. sheet. One of the hallmarks of better-quality splitters is that they have cleaner threads on their ports, which makes for easier and more-secure connections.

Even with a lesser-quality splitter (unless it's outright defective) you're unlikely to notice any change in reception on the downstream side if your signal is OK to begin with.

There is a wireless connection at the M6620N, but I don't know what to do with it. Youtube doesn't work most of the time. When it work it's so slow. There a couple of "internet channels", but again it's so slow it's practically useless. With this connection quality, I started to wonder if there is any way of using it to listen to internet radio. Does anyone know how? I yawn for the good quality video from Netflix, but now I have spent so much on M6620N, I would rather not spend another $100 on a Roku.

Hi,
I bought the m-6620n without a hard disk, I got a 1Tb Western Digital and installed before connecting m-6620n for first time. The manual says TVX-HD automatically formats when you install an unformatted new hard disk. Do not shut down the power when formatting the hard disk. So I was expecting this to happen, but it didn't. I went through the configuration menu, did the channel scan, then I left it on overnight just in case, but it looks like no formatting was performed, when I connect my laptop via the usb cable provided it doesn't detect it. The firmware is 1.8.7, not sure what to do next, maybe take out the disk and put it on a dock and format using my laptop. My config is:
Cable connected with a splitter (thanks TPeterson) one end goes to the m-6620n and the other to the HDTV, the m-6620n is connected to the HDTV via HDMI.
Doesn't sound good that neither your laptop nor the TViX seems to detect that HDD. It may be defective! Checking it in an external dock is a good idea.

EDIT: See my next post below, which was when I realized what capf's mistake was when looking at the HDD from his PC.
Capf,

Don't worry, I had the same exact issue as you did. Neither the TViX and my laptop computer (Windows Vista) recognizes the Western Digital 1 TB Caviar Green SATA Intellipower Hard Drive (WD10EARS). Because the WD HD is SATA type, some says that Windows Vista does not have driver for SATA. I spent hours trying to install a SATA driver, but nothing seemed working.

Here is what I actually got the HD working at my M6620N:
1. Hit "Movie" button at remote control to get the file folder,
2. Push "Goto" button at remote control to open the file location selection box
3. Choose and select "HDD" (rather than NET or UPnP)
At this point, M6620N will start to format the HDD. It took less than 30 sec to finish.

Obviously it's another software bug (among countless of bugs there). But this works. Good luck!
capf and YY--

You don't need a "SATA driver" to access the HDD inside the TViX from your PC. But I just realized what your problem was: You were expecting an unformatted drive to show up in Windows Explorer. That doesn't happen. You need to format the drive using the Disk Management app under My Computer|Manage.

capf, after you've formatted the drive as YY describes, then it will show up on your notebook PC in Windows Explorer.

YYue, thanks for providing the detailed instructions to prompt the TViX to format the HDD. One forgets about that since it's only done once!
